In late August, passengers traveling on the Hanoi - Da Nang train were surprised to see some "sparkling" beautiful carriages in the train. The carriages were shiny, the restrooms were always clean, even after peak dining hours; the sleeping compartments had comfortable air conditioning.
Mr. Nguyen Viet Hiep, General Director of Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company, said that these are renovated and upgraded carriages that are being tested to be included in the high-quality train SE19/SE20.
In fact, the SE19/SE20 train pair is currently running on the Hanoi - Da Nang route, but the company decided to invest and build this train pair into a high-quality train with its own brand and identity. Because the train on the Hanoi - Da Nang route has a high and stable number of foreign tourists , not seasonal like tourists on other routes. In addition, there are domestic tourists who prefer to travel by train but have high service requirements.

Moreover, the SE19/SE20 train has a good schedule, departing from Hanoi in the evening, passing Hai Van Pass in the middle of the next morning, passengers can admire the "first majestic pass" through the train window. In the return afternoon, the train departs from Da Nang station in the evening, arriving at Ninh Binh station in the early morning, passengers will have more time to visit and explore destinations in Ninh Binh such as Trang An, Phat Diem stone church...
To build this train, the company selected good quality carriages and brought them to the workshop for further refurbishment: painting, gluing the interior walls, repainting the exterior walls; and installing new window curtains. The dining carriages were designed and re-furnished with furniture so that passengers could feel comfortable while eating and enjoying the view.
For passenger cars, install new bright white ceramic sanitary equipment in the washroom and toilet compartments, bringing a clean and luxurious feeling. Apply technical solutions, eliminate the cause of bad odor from waste containers.
The company also equipped new passenger facilities on the train such as hot water heaters; blankets, sheets, pillows, and mattresses. The air conditioning system for the sleeping compartment was also redesigned and installed, with air outlet adjustment buttons like in cars to adjust the direction and volume.
Regarding the high-quality service staff on the train, Mr. Le Tien Dung, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Railway Attendant Group, said that the unit has re-selected from the train conductor, staff, and security guards. Accordingly, female staff must be 1m55 or taller, male staff must be 1m62 or taller, have good appearance, good communication skills and experience, especially being able to communicate in English. Along with that, design and select a unique uniform model, identifying the staff of this train.
The sleeper compartment of train SE19/SE20 is designed luxuriously and cozy.
A cleaning staff is assigned to this train, hired from a professional cleaning company. The unit also develops a procedure for cleaning work on the train and monitors and inspects the quality of cleaning.
This staff will be responsible for cleaning the toilets and washrooms on the train. The car staff will clean the car, passenger area, hallways... and the toilet area when the cleaning staff is not available. The goal is to provide the best quality of service to passengers.
Buy specialties by scanning QR codes on the train
General Director Nguyen Viet Hiep said that along with building a high-quality train from Hanoi to Da Nang, Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company is building a website and app for train passengers to buy food, drinks or order regional specialties.
Specifically, QR codes will be posted on the seats or in the sleeping compartments. Passengers will scan the QR code with their smartphones to link to the sales website. On this page, passengers can choose to buy food and drinks to use right on the train by checking the items they want to buy. The system will record and notify the train staff, who will meet the passenger to confirm and notify the food service staff to serve the product to the passenger.
The washroom and toilet areas are equipped with new equipment and have dedicated cleaning staff.
Similarly, if a customer chooses to order a regional specialty, the staff will also come to confirm with the passenger about the item and quantity. However, the specialty must be associated with a location, for example, grilled veal at Cau Mong (Quang Nam), banh bot loc (Hue)..., so before the train arrives at the station that stops at this location at least 20 minutes, the staff must confirm the order with the customer. After this time, the system will no longer display the specialty at this location, but only the specialty at the next location on the train's journey.
When the customer places an order on the system, the supplier and the train staff both receive the order information. After the train staff confirms it, the supplier will prepare the goods, ship them to the station for the staff to receive the goods and deliver them to the passenger on the train. Passengers can choose different payment methods: cash or bank transfer... Regarding the price, the transportation branches work with suppliers to ensure quality goods and reasonable prices.
"Once completed, this application will be applied to all trains, including the high-quality SE19/SE20 trains. Passengers can freely choose their desired regional specialties to enjoy right on the train or bring home as gifts.
