According to hospital leaders, ultrasound endoscopy is the first technique performed at hospitals in the Mekong Delta region, opening up new opportunities for diagnosis and in-depth treatment of gastrointestinal diseases for patients in the region.

According to specialist doctor II Nguyen Thi Quynh Mai - head of the endoscopy department, Can Tho Central General Hospital, ultrasound endoscopy is a combination of endoscopy and ultrasound techniques. This is a method that uses an endoscope with an ultrasound probe, helping to diagnose and intervene in lesions of the digestive tract, bile, pancreas and mucosal lesions, outside the digestive tract mucosa.

This is the premise for the establishment of the first Endoscopy Center in the Mekong Delta, under Can Tho Central General Hospital in 2025. Currently, the endoscopy unit is fully equipped with standard equipment, meeting the requirements of advanced endoscopic diagnosis and intervention, performing specialized techniques of ultrasound endoscopy.

The establishment of the Endoscopy Center can help improve the diagnosis and treatment of some complex digestive and hepatobiliary diseases, deploy laser lithotripsy of large stones in the common bile duct through the SpyGlass system, biopsy to diagnose biliary strictures, biliary tract cancer... helping people in the Southwest region have the opportunity to access modern diagnostic techniques.

In particular, according to the leader of Can Tho Central General Hospital, it will deploy high-tech applications and artificial intelligence (AI) to support internal diagnosis of gastrointestinal diseases.

The Endoscopy Center is also a place to connect and transfer techniques, becoming a training center, educating and transferring endoscopic techniques to provincial hospitals, contributing to reducing the load on upper-level hospitals and improving the quality of treatment for people.
