The VTS submarine cable line co-founded by Viettel and Singtel is expected to be operational in the second quarter of 2027, directly connecting Vietnam with Singapore.
In the memorandum of understanding signed between the two parties on April 11, in addition to the main axis, the line has branches landing in Cambodia, Thailand, and Malaysia. The cable uses an 8-pair fiber configuration (08FP) with wavelength multiplexing technology that is considered the most modern today.
This is the first direct cable line built jointly by a Vietnamese and Singaporean unit, and is the shortest line connecting Vietnam to the largest data center in Southeast Asia.

Mr. Ooi Seng Keat, Vice President of Singtel, assessed that Vietnam is one of the fastest growing digital economies in the world, with businesses and consumers adopting new technologies such as artificial intelligence and data-intensive applications.
“The construction of the VTS cable will meet the growing demand for higher bandwidth and lower latency connectivity,” said Mr. Seng Keat.
The two sides have not announced the specific capacity of the line, but said it "will add hundreds of Tbps" to the total international capacity of this unit, while opening up a new connection direction, helping to improve the redundancy and network safety of Vietnam's international connection infrastructure.
According to the strategy for developing Vietnam's international fiber optic cable system by 2030 issued by the Ministry of Information and Communications , Vietnam aims to become a regional data center (Digital Hub). To do this, Vietnam needs to increase the total number of submarine fiber optic cables to at least 15 lines with a total capacity of at least 334 Tbps, of which at least two lines need to be owned by Vietnamese enterprises, with priority given to short lines and direct connections to major Digital Hubs in the Asian region.
Vietnam currently uses five submarine cable lines. However, these lines are all operated by alliances, so they often encounter difficulties when troubleshooting. Previously, Viettel also announced its investment in cable lines including Asia Direct Cable (ADC) and Asia Link Cable (ALC).
