According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, fresh Vietnamese durian is currently exported to 24 markets. Frozen durian is also exported to 23 markets.

In the first 8 months of 2023, Vietnam exported over 300,000 tons of fresh durian.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first 8 months of 2023, fruit and vegetable exports brought in 3.45 billion USD, an increase of 57.5% over the same period last year.

Durian alone brought in export revenue of over 1.2 billion USD, accounting for 30% of total turnover and nearly 3 times higher than the turnover of the whole year 2022 (420 million USD).

This strong growth is due to the Protocol on phytosanitary requirements for fresh durian exports from Vietnam to China in the second quarter of 2022.

Currently, Vietnam's durian exports are mainly to China. From now until the end of the year, Vietnam has the advantage of exporting durian to China with the crop in the Central Highlands being different from many countries that are also boosting exports to this market.

Durian is forecast to continue to set export records as there is increasing investment in high-standard growing areas for export to China and many other demanding markets.
