According to the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection (Hai Phong City Department of Agriculture and Environment), this year's rice crop in the city covers nearly 81,000 hectares. The rice crops in the city are growing and developing well. Specifically, the early-season rice is in the heading and flowering stage; the mid-season rice is in the tillering and heading stage; and the late-season rice is entering the vigorous tillering and tillering stage.
Field inspections revealed several rice pests and diseases, including the fifth generation of rice leaf roller, brown spot, blast, and bacterial leaf blight. It is predicted that in the coming days, the sixth generation of rice leaf roller larvae will hatch and cause damage to rice during the heading stage, starting from mid-September. Blast, bacterial leaf blight, and bacterial leaf spot are also affecting susceptible varieties during the heading stage. Rice planthoppers are appearing and causing scattered damage.
To proactively prevent and control the outbreak and damage caused by pests and diseases, the Sub-Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection requests that Plant Protection Stations closely coordinate with the Economic Departments and the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Departments of communes, wards, and special zones in directing crop production and plant protection. Assigning staff to closely monitor the fields, investigate and track the growth of rice crops and the pest situation will allow for timely guidance to localities on organizing safe and effective pest control measures.
