On April 21, Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee held a meeting of the 16th Provincial Party Executive Committee to give opinions on the Project and plan to arrange administrative units at the provincial and commune levels.

Delegates attending the Conference agreed to merge Kon Tum province and Quang Ngai province into Quang Ngai province, with the political and administrative center located in Quang Ngai city, Quang Ngai province today.

Arrange and merge the National Assembly Delegations of the two provinces in accordance with the Resolution of the National Assembly; the People's Councils of the two provinces in accordance with Resolution No. 76/2025/UBTVQH15, dated April 14, 2025 of the National Assembly Standing Committee. Merge the original boards of the People's Councils and the Office of the National Assembly Delegation and People's Councils of the two provinces. After the merger, there will be 5 agencies: the Legal Committee of the People's Council, the Economic - Budget Committee of the People's Council, the Cultural - Social Committee of the People's Council, the Ethnic Committee of the People's Council, the Office of the National Assembly Delegation and People's Council. Regarding the plan to arrange commune-level administrative units in Kon Tum province, it is expected that after the arrangement, from the existing 102 communes, wards and towns, there will be 40 communes and wards (including 37 communes and 3 wards), reducing 62 communes, wards and towns, ensuring the prescribed ratio. Particularly, Kon Tum city will have from the existing 21 communes and wards, after the arrangement, there will be 6 communes and wards (3 communes and 3 wards).

Regarding the naming of provinces, communes and wards after the merger and arrangement, opinions discussed at the 16th Provincial Party Executive Committee Conference stated that the names need to ensure cultural and historical factors, and the typicality and representation of the land.
