According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, after merging with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City will have 5 specialized high schools, including:

Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (under the management of the former Ho Chi Minh City Departmentof Education and Training);

Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted (under the management of the former Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training);

High School for the Gifted, Ho Chi Minh City National University;

Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted (formerly under the Department of Education and Training of Ba Ria - Vung Tau);

Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted (formerly Binh Duong Department of Education and Training).

Among these, there are 3 specialized schools recruiting students nationwide, including: Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted and Talent High School.

In the 2025-2026 school year, the enrollment targets of 5 specialized schools are as follows:

Le Hong Phong High School enrolls 805 students.

Tran Dai Nghia Specialized School enrolls 525 students.

Gifted High School enrolls 595 students.

Hung Vuong Specialized School enrolls 385 students.

Le Quy Don High School enrolls 455 students.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that for the time being, specialized schools will still operate stably in the 2025-2026 school year.

Ho Chi Minh City has only more than 3,500 schools and 2.6 million students.

After the merger, Ho Chi Minh City will not only become a megacity in terms of geographical area and economic development potential, but also the largest city in the country in terms of education. It is estimated that the city will have about 2.6 million students, with more than 3,500 educational institutions from preschool to high school.

In terms of the number of teachers, the new Ho Chi Minh City will have more than 110,000 teachers.

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has 10 departments including: Office, Inspection - Legal Department, Personnel Organization Department, Planning - Finance Department, Student Department, Quality Management Department, Preschool Education Department, General Education Department, Continuing Education - Vocational and University Department, and Non-public Educational Institution Management Department.
