TPO - Heavy rain over a large area on the afternoon of May 15 caused flooding in many areas in Ho Chi Minh City. The Meteorological Agency forecasts that thunderstorms in the South and Ho Chi Minh City are likely to continue in the coming days, with rain concentrated in the afternoon and evening.

On the afternoon of May 15, widespread thunderstorms occurred in Ho Chi Minh City. During the rain, many roads around Thu Duc Market (Thu Duc City) such as Ho Van Tu, Duong Van Cam, To Ngoc Van, Lam Son, Dang Thi Ranh, etc. were deeply flooded.

Prolonged heavy rain also caused some other areas such as Quoc Huong Street (Thao Dien Ward, Thu Duc City), Ung Van Khiem Street (Binh Thanh District), etc. to experience localized flooding, causing many traffic difficulties.

In recent days, the weather in Ho Chi Minh City has been sunny, hot in some places in the morning and noon. There have been showers in some places in the afternoon and evening.

Regarding the weather conditions affecting the Ho Chi Minh City area in the next 10 days (from May 15 to May 25), the Southern Hydrometeorological Station said that currently, the rain-causing disturbances are operating well in the Southern region. From about May 18-19, the Southwest monsoon will operate in the Southern region.

From the above weather patterns, it is forecasted that the Southern region in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular will continue to have thunderstorms in the coming days.

“Thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind. Beware of heavy rain causing localized flooding,” said the Southern Hydrometeorological Station.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting also said that from the evening of May 15 to the night of May 16, in the Southern region, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall of 15-30mm, in some places over 70mm.

It is forecasted that from the night of May 17-25, thunderstorms in the South are likely to continue, with rain concentrated in the afternoon and evening.
