On the challenging Quail Hollow course, Scheffler got off to a shaky start with a bogey on the first hole, but quickly recovered with consecutive birdies on holes 4, 5 and 7. Despite making two more bogeys on holes 11 and 13, he didn't let those mistakes linger.
Scheffler really came into his element starting at the 14th hole. He made a spectacular eagle on the par-4 hole, stopping his tee shot just a few feet from the flag. He then birdied the par-5 15th with a putt from about 5 feet. He followed that up with a birdie on the par-3 17th with a 17-foot putt, and finished the round with another birdie with a putt from 7 feet at the 18th.
A round of -6 (65 strokes) helped Scheffler have the best result of the day and raised his total score after three rounds to -11, thereby taking the lead with a difference of 3 strokes compared to the golfer behind.
“Some days my ability to stay calm works better than others,” Scheffler said. “Today was one of those days. I am proud of my fighting spirit throughout the past three days and am excited for the final challenge.”
