Mr. Dang Thanh Hai - General Director of Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV) - said that in the first 6 months of this year, the volume of coal supplied to thermal power plants reached 20.981 million tons, equivalent to 54.5% of the contract volume and equal to 115.2% compared to the same period in 2022 (an increase of 2.765 million tons). It is expected that in 2023, the amount of coal supplied to electricity will be about 39.7 million tons, an increase of about 15% compared to the same period in 2022 (an increase of about 4.7 million tons).

According to Mr. Hai, most thermal power plants are highly mobilized. The implementation of coal supply to thermal power plants in the first 6 months of the year ensures the progress of the contract, some plants exceed the contract progress. However, there are still a few plants that have not met the progress.

TKV commits to add more than 1.2 million tons of coal for electricity production.

" In the last 6 months of the year, TKV will strive to find every measure, including increasing production capacity, to ensure adequate supply and supplement coal according to the needs of thermal power plants. According to the proposal of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), based on TKV's capacity and the plan for June and July, TKV will provide EVN's thermal power plants with an average of 10,000 tons/month/plant compared to the progress specified in the signed contract... TKV also supplies coal to Thai Binh 2 thermal power plant with a volume of 300,000 tons, 140,000 tons higher than the commitment in the signed contract ," said the General Director of TKV.

According to Mr. Hai, after the Prime Minister 's telegram on June 6, all thermal power plants have increased coal demand. It is expected that in July 2023, TKV will have to increase the supply compared to the contract progress by about 500,000 tons. Accordingly, the implementation of coal supply for electricity in 2023 will reach a total of 39.7 million tons, an increase of more than 1.2 million tons compared to the signed contract and equal to 113.5% compared to the same period in 2022.

According to the leader of TKV, in the first months of the year, the effective coordination and efforts to supply coal of TKV and Dong Bac Corporation have significantly contributed to EVN's production and supply of electricity for economic development and serving people's lives. All generators using anthracite coal have operated at maximum capacity according to the system's requirements, no generator has stopped/reduced capacity due to lack of coal. TKV alone has supplied 17.18 million tons of coal to power households, reaching 44.6% of the plan, equal to 113.2% of the same period, an increase of 2 million tons of coal compared to the same period, exceeding the progress according to the signed contract.

On June 14, EVN also said it had a working session with TKV and Dong Bac Corporation to propose that these two units provide an additional 1 million tons in addition to the signed contract volume to ensure enough coal for electricity production needs in June and July.
