Two durian 'queens' will be auctioned at the 2024 Durian Festival

On August 22, the People's Committee of Krong Pac district ( Dak Lak ) held a press conference on the 2nd Durian Festival with the theme "Krong Pac Durian - Development and Integration".

Ms. Ngo Thi Minh Trinh, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Krong Pac district, chaired the press conference, attended by representatives of the Provincial People's Council, provincial departments and branches; leaders of the District Party Committee and People's Committee of Krong Pac district.

According to the Organizing Committee, the selection and scoring process from 32 gardens has selected 2 durians Ri6 and Dona to be crowned "Queen" of durian in 2024. These 2 durians will be auctioned for charity. "The winning bidder will be given 2 fresh durians and 2 24k gold-plated durians worth 50-70 million VND by the District People's Committee" - Ms. Trinh informed at the press conference.

The second durian festival in 2024 will take place from August 31 to September 2 with 12 main activities. Of which, before the opening day, there will be 5 activities, including: Competition for good durian farmers; Fair to introduce OCOP products and potential local agriculture ; Krong Pac district's expanded culinary culture festival; Experience enjoying durian in the garden and visiting ancient durian trees; Cross-country race for community health.

The opening ceremony will take place at 8:00 p.m. on August 31, at the Tan An Lake Square, Phuoc An Town, Krong Pac District. The workshop on building and developing a sustainable durian ecosystem will be a highlight to connect, introduce and promote Krong Pac durian products in particular and Dak Lak durian in general. Here, the auction of 2 durian "queens" in 2024 will be held.

At the festival, for the first time, Krong Pac district will display the longest dragon in Vietnam to highlight the main activities. Before the news that China allowed the export of frozen durian, Ms. Trinh affirmed that Krong Pac district is ready to be the first locality to do this with the highest spirit and responsibility, in order to increase the value of durian and improve the lives of the people.

According to statistics, in 2024, the entire Krong Pac district will have more than 8,000 hectares of durian. The durian output in 2024 is expected to reach over 92 thousand tons. Of which, there are many durian varieties with high quality and good yield such as Dona, Ri6, Musang King...
