Less than a week after releasing the first teaser image of the Seal 6 EV sedan, BYD has confirmed that this electric sedan will be launched in the Malaysian market on September 26. As previously predicted, this will be the first global market for this model, which is called BYD Qin L EV in China. Compared to its brother BYD Seal, the Seal 6 EV is slightly smaller and is expected to be cheaper. Developed on the same e-Platform 3.0 Evo chassis platform as the BYD Sealion 7, this sedan has dimensions of length x width x height of 4,720 x 1,880 x 1,495 mm and a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.
In terms of design, the BYD Seal 6 EV is not as sporty as the Seal. This is understandable because of the difference in performance between the two models. The front area of the Seal 6 EV comes with a neat headlight cluster, connected by a silver bar. This is also a sign of recognition for a model in BYD's Dynasty line. This detail also appears on two models of the same line, the BYD Atto 2 and Atto 3. The front bumper of the BYD Seal 6 EV is X-shaped and repeated at the rear. Meanwhile, the side of the car retains the 6-window glass design and black strip on the steps. The rear of the car is equipped with horizontal LED taillights with "infinity" graphics similar to the Atto 2 and the BYD logo integrated with hidden red LED lights. The interior of the BYD Seal 6 EV has a neater, more modern design than its brother, the Seal. Here, the car has a glossy black panel that extends the entire width of the dashboard. The simple three-spoke steering wheel of the BYD Atto 2 is also applied to this pure electric sedan.
Next to it is the steering column-mounted gear lever similar to the BYD Atto 2. This design has freed up space in the center console, allowing the company to arrange an additional storage compartment with a tray for 2 phones. Of which, only one tray supports 50W Qi wireless charging. In addition, there are 2 cup holders and an optional refrigerator under the center armrest. Standard equipment on the BYD Seal 6 EV includes an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch or 15.6-inch infotainment display that rotates 90 degrees. A six- or eight-speaker audio system, heated/ventilated power front seats, a memory driver's seat, a panoramic sunroof with power blinds, and an optional DiSus-C adaptive suspension system are also available on this Chinese electric vehicle. In the Chinese market, the BYD Seal 6 EV has 3 versions. Of which, the standard version has a maximum capacity of 150 horsepower and a maximum torque of 220 Nm, with an operating range of 470 km according to CLTC standards thanks to the 46.08 kWh Blade LFP battery. The other two versions are equipped with a more powerful electric motor with a maximum capacity of 218 horsepower and a maximum torque of 330 Nm. The batteries of these two versions are also larger with a capacity of 56.64 kWh, providing an operating range of 545 km according to CLTC standards.
The smaller battery pack supports DC fast charging with a maximum charging power of 84 kW, while the larger battery pack supports 103 kW. Both can charge from 30% to 80% in 24 minutes. However, AC slow charging is limited to 7 kW. In addition, both support V2L off-the-shelf power supply with a charging power of up to 6 kW. It is not yet clear whether the BYD Seal 6 EV will be sold in other Southeast Asian markets such as Vietnam after Malaysia. In Vietnam, BYD is preparing to launch a new pure electric sedan, the Seal 5, in October 2025.
