The trio promises to help MU's attack "transform". |
After a forgettable 2024/25 season with the worst attack in the club's history in the Premier League, MU took drastic action. Coach Ruben Amorim completed a rebuild worth more than 200 million pounds with 3 new players Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, carrying huge expectations about restoring the strength of the "Red Devils".
It is a bold but necessary gamble after the Old Trafford outfit scored just 44 goals last season, their lowest tally in 33 years in England's top flight. However, the biggest question is not the value of the signings, but whether this talented trio can combine into a well-oiled attacking machine.
In theory, the Cunha-Sesko-Mbeumo positional arrangement is quite ideal. Mbeumo is in charge of the right flank, Cunha is familiar with the attacking role from the left, while Sesko is a typical "number 9". This arrangement helps them avoid "stepping on each other's toes" in the tactical system.
Both Cunha and Mbeumo are modern-day attackers, known for their ability to carry and progress the ball – two things that United have sorely lacked. Cunha’s experience playing as a left-sided No. 10 in a 3-4-2-1 at Wolves is an advantage, as this is the system Amorim has built at Old Trafford.

Sesko is expected to coordinate well with Cunha and Mbeumo. |
The real challenge lies in blending the three new signings’ styles. Mbeumo thrived at Brentford when paired with a striker who was good at moving off the ball to create space. Cunha, on the other hand, prefers a partner who can act as a wall, feeding the ball to him from the second line.
Luckily for Amorim, Sesko has a versatile skill set to suit both requirements. The Slovenian striker is a killer in the box and has the ability to drop deep to link up play.
Compared to Rasmus Hojlund, Sesko (1.96 m tall) brings superiority in the air and the ability to "keep the ball alive" in counter-attacking situations or long passes, an important piece of the Amorim system.
Although they have never played together, the fact that Cunha, Sesko and Mbeumo all scored more than 10 goals last season is a solid foundation for building a good understanding. If coach Amorim can unite these three personalities into a unified block, the attack worth more than 200 million pounds can bring MU back to the position of a championship candidate.
However, if it fails, it will be one of the most expensive and disappointing investments in the club's history.
