Shin Tae-yong is about to lead the Chinese team?

On July 7, Shin Tae-yong was present in the VIP stands of Yongin Stadium (Gyeonggi, South Korea), sitting in the same area as leaders of the Chinese Football Association, including President Song Kai. The appearance of coach Shin Tae-yong at this match has raised many speculations about his future, in the context that the Chinese team is looking for a replacement for coach Branko Ivanković after the failure in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The former South Korean coach is on the radar of the Chinese Football Association (CFA) for the position of national team coach. The 0-3 defeat of the Chinese team on the opening day of the 2025 EAFF Championship has put even more pressure on the CFA to find a new coach.

According to the South China Morning Post , the CFA has received much criticism from the Chinese public and wants to announce a new coach for the national team in July. After firing Ivanković, the CFA chose Dejan Djurdjevic as interim coach, but with a 0-3 defeat to South Korea on the opening day, the Serbian strategist is unlikely to continue leading the national team of the billion-people country.

Coach Shin Tae-yong was fired by the Indonesian Football Federation earlier this year, mainly for non-professional reasons. After leaving Indonesia, Coach Shin Tae-yong has been busy with various jobs, including the position of Vice President of the Korea Football Association (KFA).
