Super weapon - Russia's 'doomsday' missile |
The article said: "Russia has successfully tested a new nuclear-powered cruise missile, officially called Burevestnik and reported to be the 'Flying Chernobyl', the 'doomsday' super weapon."
Accordingly, the Burevestnik missile, along with other super weapons, gives Russia more retaliatory options if the US decides to launch a surprise attack at sea and in the air.
In addition, Burevestnik, along with the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, the Avangard, Kinzhal and Zircon hypersonic missiles, as well as the Poseidon nuclear torpedo, was developed to penetrate enemy defense systems.
Burevestnik is one of the newest weapons systems. According to the Russian Defense Ministry , this intercontinental cruise missile has practically unlimited range and is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.
The Russian military notes that this low-flying cruise missile is invulnerable to all existing and future air defense systems.
According to the ministry, the Burevestnik missile is capable of evading missile defense systems and launching warheads at targets unexpectedly. During flight, the missile constantly changes direction to avoid early warning and air defense systems at sea.
The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) believes that the range of the Burevestnik could be between 10,000 and 20,000 km, emphasizing its ability to target multiple locations across continents. This range would allow the missile to be placed anywhere in Russia to reach targets in the continental United States.
According to IISS, the missile's flight altitude could be between 50 and 100 meters, much lower than conventionally powered cruise missiles, making it very difficult for air defense radars to detect.
Russian military expert Alexei Leonkov describes Burevestnik as a "retaliatory weapon", designed to strike after intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), ensuring the ability to flatten enemy military infrastructure.
