During his working trip to Japan from August 28 to 30, Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the National Assembly Delegation Affairs Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai had working meetings with the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the House of Representatives, Chairman of the Special Committee on Political Reform of the Senate, representatives of the Election Agency under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan, Chairman of the Saitama Prefectural Assembly Shirato Yukihito and the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan.

At meetings with leaders of the Japanese House of Representatives and the Senate, both Chairman of the Upper House Political Reform Committee Furukawa Motohisa and Chairman of the House of Representatives Executive Committee Hamada Yasukazu warmly welcomed the delegation, expressing their willingness to share Japan's experience in election work.

Chairman of the Upper House Political Reform Committee Furukawa Motohisa mentioned the issue of spreading fake news or false information, slander during elections, considering it a major issue in ensuring the fairness of elections. He said that his Committee had had heated discussions to overcome this situation, and expressed hope that the experiences Japan has accumulated will be helpful to Vietnam. On this occasion, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hai respectfully invited the Chairman of the Special Committee on Political Reform of the Upper House of Japan to visit Vietnam at a suitable time.

At the House of Representatives, Chairman of the House of Representatives Executive Committee Hamada Yasukazu affirmed that Japan and Vietnam are two important partners, working together to ensure security and free trade in the Asia- Pacific region. He expressed his hope that the two countries would further promote cooperation activities in all areas to match the comprehensive strategic partnership. He emphasized that the two countries have had high-level bilateral visits, such as the visit of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to Japan in late 2024 and the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru to Vietnam in April 2025. These visits demonstrate the warm relationship between the two countries. Chairman Yasukazu said that in the context of unpredictable global economic fluctuations, Vietnam, under the leadership of General Secretary To Lam, has carried out many strong reforms. He hopes that the two countries will further promote exchange and investment activities, through ensuring a favorable investment environment for businesses of the two countries.

For his part, Chairman Nguyen Thanh Hai respectfully thanked the leaders of the Senate, the House of Representatives, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan, and the parliamentarians for their warm welcome; and highly appreciated the interest and support of the Japanese side in promoting the cooperative relationship between the two countries in recent times.

Chairman of the National Assembly Deputies Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai emphasized that the Cooperation Agreement between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the House of Councilors of Japan, signed in December 2024, is an important foundation to enhance the effectiveness of bilateral and multilateral parliamentary cooperation; at the same time, he proposed to promote delegation exchanges and exchanges between parliamentarians, especially young parliamentarians and female parliamentarians; promote the bridging role of parliamentarians of the two countries in promoting local and business cooperation; expand cooperation between specialized committees, especially in the specialized fields of the Deputies' Work Committee such as election work, organization work and personnel work in the elected representative bloc, etc.

The two sides agreed that parliamentary cooperation is an important channel in the overall Vietnam-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, contributing to strengthening political trust, promoting people-to-people exchange and expanding cooperation in many fields.

At the meeting with representatives of the Japanese Elections Agency, the Japanese side introduced the country's electoral system and shared experiences in determining the qualifications of candidates as well as measures to support candidates during the election process. The Vietnamese delegation emphasized the importance of sharing experiences in election work, especially when Vietnam is preparing for the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.

Chairman Nguyen Thanh Hai said that Vietnam is implementing many innovations, including the arrangement and reform of administrative units and the implementation of a two-tier local government model, which places high demands on election work. He expressed his wish to continue receiving valuable exchanges from Japan in training to improve the capacity, skills, and expertise of officials serving election work, and applying digital transformation in election work...

Previously, on August 28, the delegation visited and worked in Saitama Prefecture. At the meeting, the two sides affirmed that local-level cooperation is an important channel, contributing to promoting economic, trade, labor and people-to-people relations between Vietnam and Japan. Chairman of the Delegation Affairs Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai acknowledged and highly appreciated nearly 100 Saitama enterprises investing in Vietnam, many of which are concentrated in Nhon Trach Industrial Park (Dong Nai); emphasizing that Saitama is a locality with great potential for cooperation, especially in the fields of manufacturing and high technology.

On the same day, Chairman of the Delegation Affairs Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai and the delegation visited and worked with the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan, listened to reports on the bilateral cooperation situation, the life of the Vietnamese community in Japan and orientations to promote the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Japan in the coming time.
