The event is an opportunity for stakeholders to share experiences and propose solutions to build a tourism ecosystem that is friendly to the Muslim community - a group of customers with great potential in the global tourism industry.
In his opening speech, Mr. Tran Trung Hieu - Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism emphasized: "The seminar is an opportunity to share information, experience, and propose practical solutions to build a friendly tourism ecosystem for Muslim tourists in Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general. We look forward to listening to valuable opinions from Halal certification organizations, businesses, experts and partners to gradually develop suitable products, creating a solid foundation to attract and serve Halal tourists well."
Mr. Tran Trung Hieu, Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism spoke at the program.
According to Mr. Hieu, in recent years, international tourists to Hanoi have come from more than 200 countries and territories, of which countries with a large Muslim population such as India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Turkey, Pakistan, etc. have increasingly accounted for a large proportion. In particular, 2024 recorded strong growth from the Halal market, with the number of Indonesian visitors increasing 3.6 times, Bangladesh increasing 2.4 times, and Nigeria increasing 4 times compared to the previous year.
The total number of tourists from Halal countries to Hanoi in 2024 will reach about 650,000, accounting for nearly 15% of the total number of international visitors to the capital. Of which, India accounts for the largest proportion with more than 325,000 visitors, followed by Malaysia with 121,988 visitors, and Indonesia with 109,390 visitors.
“In the first four months of 2025, the growth trend continued to be maintained in most Halal markets, with India, Malaysia, and Indonesia being the leading markets. Countries such as Iran, UAE, and Egypt also maintained a stable growth momentum,” Mr. Hieu informed and said. Hanoi has been proactively approaching and implementing activities to develop products and services for Muslim customers, a relatively new but potential segment.
Delegates of the Tourism Association attended the seminar.
At the seminar, Mr. Mieu Abbas - Chairman of Halal Vietnam said that Halal is not a secondary option but a strategic opportunity for Vietnam to affirm its position in the international market. He emphasized: "In the context of the world increasingly valuing ethical standards, transparency and sustainability, Halal has gone beyond religious boundaries, becoming an international standard for quality, safety and business ethics."
According to Mr. Abbas, Halal Vietnam currently has partners in more than 57 countries, accompanying nearly 400 domestic enterprises on the journey to integrate into the global Halal market. In Hanoi alone, this organization has granted certificates to many enterprises in the fields of food, cosmetics and services; and at the same time, put into operation the first Halal store in Vietnam, where typical Halal products are displayed.

However, the Chairman of Halal Vietnam also frankly pointed out the current barriers: "Enterprises still lack basic knowledge about Halal, lack standardized guidelines, do not have expert support and have not been able to effectively access the international Muslim market."
From that reality, Mr. Mieu Abbas proposed 4 groups of practical solutions to develop Halal tourism in Hanoi: Coordinate to build a separate set of Halal guidelines for the tourism and service industry; Organize training and periodic consultation for businesses; Establish a Hanoi Halal Tourism Promotion and Introduction Center to act as a bridge to the international Muslim market; Put Hanoi on the global Halal tourism map built by Halal Vietnam.
Members discuss at the seminar.
Assessing the Halal tourism trend in 2025, Mr. Nguyen Quy Phuong - Head of International Relations and Tourism Promotion Department, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism commented: “Halal tourism is one of the fastest growing segments globally, forecast to reach over 200 billion USD by 2025. Today's generation of Muslim tourists not only requires high standards of service but also wants to immerse themselves in local culture, living responsibly towards the environment and the community”.
Mr. Phuong cited figures showing that the global Muslim population is expected to increase from 2.12 billion in 2024 to 2.47 billion in 2034, accounting for 50% of the global population growth. In particular, the proportion of Muslims under 40 years old accounts for 70%, a force with a strong tendency to spend on tourism, interested in personal experiences, digitalization and sustainable values.
The discussion ended with a high consensus from the participants on the need to form a standard Halal tourism ecosystem in Hanoi, a destination that is not only friendly but also leads the trend. With the proactiveness and openness of the city government, the support of the Vietnam Halal organization and the business community, Hanoi is expected to become an attractive destination for Muslim tourists in the region and the world .
