The number of cases of Vietnamese spices exported to Europe being warned has increased sharply.

ANTD.VN - In 2024, 21 cases of Vietnamese spices exported to the European market were warned about quality, a 7-fold increase compared to 2023.

Chili exports warned about food safety

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in 2024, Europe warned 77 cases about pepper and spices imported from markets, down 2 cases compared to 2023.

However, Vietnam recorded the highest number of warnings with 21 cases, a 7-fold increase compared to 2023.

Chili peppers were the most warned product with 11 warnings; cinnamon had 7 warnings, of which 3 were for lead residues; pepper had 1 warning for Salmonella bacteria. After Vietnam was India with 16 cases, Indonesia had 8, China had 4…

Similarly, in the US market, Vietnamese spices recorded 15 warnings, of which 6 cases were for cinnamon (3 times higher than 2 cases in 2023).

Exporting enterprises need to be careful not to be warned, because similar incidents affect the reputation of Vietnamese export goods.
