In the early morning of May 7, Sommer had a memorable performance when he contributed to Inter's 4-3 win (7-6 on aggregate) against Barcelona at home in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final.
Despite conceding three goals, Sommer was still named "Man of the Match". The Swiss goalkeeper made seven saves, including four diving saves and five saves in the penalty area.
Including both matches, Sommer made 14 saves to help Inter Milan compete fairly with Barcelona and win a ticket to the final.

Sommer's performance quickly sparked debate on social media, with Andre Onana, the former Inter goalkeeper who now plays for Manchester United, being singled out.
One fan commented: "Selling Onana and bringing in Sommer was Inter's best decision in the last decade." Another commented: "Who would have thought Sommer was only worth 5 million euros? He's worth 10 times that."
Another fan wrote: "Anyone who watches Serie A knows how good Sommer is. His last game helped him gain worldwide recognition."
Back in the summer of 2023, Inter signed Sommer from Bayern Munich for just €5 million, after selling Onana to Manchester United for €50 million. The contrasting performances of the two over the past two years have led to ridicule for Onana, who has made frequent mistakes at Manchester United, while Sommer has been Inter's hero.
At 36, Sommer has proven that he is still a world-class goalkeeper. Standing at 1.83m tall, Sommer plays with confidence and always knows how to control the penalty area. His ability to initiate attacks, organize the defense with words and good reflexes make Sommer a reliable stopper for Inter.
