After crying tears of joy after the quarter-final victory over Australia, Son Heung Min burst into tears again. This time, South Korea failed to come back from behind, failing to even have a shot on target in the entire 90 minutes.
"I don't know what to say other than sorry. The players tried their best but the result was decided by individual mistakes. It's my fault that the match ended this way ," Naver quoted the Korean captain as saying.
"Once again, I would like to thank the fans for their support until the last second. I will work harder to improve myself and help the Korean team perform better in the future ," Son said in tears.
Son could not help South Korea realize its dream of winning the Asian championship.
Son's partner in attack, Hwang Hee Chan, also apologized to fans: "I'm sorry for not being able to do better. I should have taken better care of myself to make the greatest contribution to the Korean team."
Meanwhile, the "sinner" of the Korean team, Park Yong Woo, also took responsibility for the bad pass that helped Jordan score the opening goal in the second half: "My mistake made the team pay a heavy price. Everything else is not the Korean team's problem. I don't know what to say other than sorry."
As for coach Jurgen Klinsmann, he still appears quite confident about the future: "What we need to do now is return to Korea, analyze the failure and aim for the next tournaments, first of all the World Cup qualifiers."
South Korea have yet to quench their thirst for an Asian Cup title after more than 60 years, while Jordan have reached the final for the first time in their history. The West Asian representative will face the winner of the match between Iran and Qatar. The Asian championship match will take place on February 10.
