The BHL Son La Modified Starch Processing Factory Project was granted an investment policy decision by the Provincial Industrial Parks Management Board and approved the first investor on May 9, 2024. The project has a total investment capital of more than VND 244 billion, started in March 2025, and has now been completed and ready for operation. The factory is built on an area of 1.64 hectares, with a design capacity of 300 tons/day and night (equivalent to 90,000 tons/year) producing modified starch from cassava starch, equipped with two of the most modern production lines in Asia and an automated control system. When operating, the factory can produce more than 1,000 product codes belonging to 5 main lines.

Son La currently has over 44,000 hectares of cassava, with an output of nearly 538,000 tons of fresh tubers, closely associated with the livelihoods of tens of thousands of farming households. In the province, there are two cassava starch processing factories in operation with a total capacity of about 160,000 tons/year, however the main product is still raw starch, with limited economic value. Different from normal starch, modified starch uses high technology, creating products with outstanding features such as heat resistance, high adhesion and bringing many times higher economic value. This high-quality product is an essential raw material for high-end industries such as: Food, pharmaceuticals, paper and textiles, helping the product to be competitive and widely exported into the international supply chain.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of Son La Provincial People's Committee, emphasized: This is one of the largest agricultural processing projects in the province, promoting value chain linkages from production, processing to consumption. When put into operation, the factory will create jobs for hundreds of local workers, contributing to increasing income, shifting economic structure, and sustainable poverty reduction, especially in mountainous areas and ethnic minority areas.
