Son La expands investigation into inter-provincial and transnational drug ring

On the afternoon of August 26, the Investigation Police Agency, Son La Provincial Police, announced that it had expanded the investigation into the drug ring led by Dang Giang Long, born in 1994, residing in Tran Lam ward, Thai Binh province, now Hung Yen province.

This is a drug case that the authorities cracked down on in October 2024, arresting one more person in emergency custody and arresting one especially dangerous wanted person and extraditing him from Ca Mau to the locality.

Previously, in October 2024, Son La Provincial Police successfully dismantled a drug trafficking and transportation ring led by Dang Giang Long.

This line transported drugs from abroad to Son La province, then continued to bring them to the delta provinces for consumption.

The seized exhibits included 5,956.12 grams of Methamphetamine, 1 gun and 4 bullets...; the search seized 6,976.9 grams of Methamphetamine; 2,899.4 grams of opium and 1,876 grams of heroin.

Expanding the investigation of the case, on August 18, 2025, the Investigation Police Agency, Son La Provincial Police issued an emergency arrest warrant for Nguyen Van Thanh, born in 1994, residing in Binh Minh commune, Hanoi city, for the act of illegal drug trafficking.

At the police station, Nguyen Van Thanh confessed to buying drugs from Dang Giang Long, with a quantity of 397 grams of Methamphetamine and 300 grams of Ketamine.

Expanding the investigation into the case, on June 30, 2025, the Investigation Police Agency, Son La Provincial Police issued a wanted notice for Tran Van Thang, born in 1977, residing in Giao Phuc commune, Ninh Binh province.

After a long period of verification, on August 23, 2025, the Investigation Police Agency, Son La Provincial Police presided over and coordinated with functional forces to successfully arrest Tran Van Thang while he was hiding in Long Ha hamlet, Long Dien commune, Ca Mau province.

The investigation determined that Tran Van Thang bought 1 heroin cake from Dang Giang Long and his accomplices Nguyen Thi Van Anh and Pham Duc Hoang to sell for profit.

To date, the Investigation Police Agency, Son La Provincial Police have investigated, arrested, and prosecuted 17 defendants on charges of buying, selling, transporting, and illegally storing drugs and illegally storing military weapons.

The case is being further investigated by the Investigation Police Agency and Son La Provincial Police to handle the subjects in accordance with the provisions of law.
