Yesterday, a source from The Athletic said that MU approached Brighton through an intermediary to learn about the conditions for buying Baleba.
The 21-year-old Cameroonian talent has three years left on his contract with the Amex Stadium team and is one of the most sought-after midfielders in the Premier League recently.
Moved to Brighton from Lille for £25m, Baleba's value has now almost tripled to over £70m.
The MU transfer board and coach Ruben Amorim want to add a mobile midfielder who can both intercept from a distance and carry the ball up.

Speaking at the latest annual fans forum, Brighton chief executive Paul Barber revealed:
"MU has not contacted me about Baleba. So, from all angles, speculation is still just speculation. We always try to ensure that we sell our good players at the right time.
Carlos Baleba is a great talent with a big future ahead of him. We hope he will stay here for many years. However, that depends on the transfer market, which is very unpredictable."
