On June 10, the X social network account named Jon Yongfook posted a status that attracted attention: “I was fired from Apple today. My design team and I spent 18 months experimenting with different levels of Gaussian blur when UI elements are in the foreground. If you need an expert on UI blur, liquid glass, grass, or fur, contact me.”

The article was humorous and satirical, but was quickly misunderstood by many as official information about Apple terminating the contract with the interface design team leader. Some foreign newspapers even headlined: "Apple fires Liquid Glass designer hours after WWDC event" without verifying its authenticity.

To make matters worse, Yongfook himself continued to post other jokes, including introducing his “last projects at Apple”—namely iOS 27 Orangutan, iOS 28 Rattan, iOS 29 Candy, and iOS 30 Sashimi—all of which were clearly meant to be sarcastic. He even “claimed” that he had just taken a new job at Samsung, in charge of “1-pixel edge brightness.”

However, a quick look at his LinkedIn profile or social media bio shows that Jon Yongfook has never worked for Apple. He has no role in any of the interface design teams at the American technology company. Longtime followers of Yongfook know that this is a familiar style: Humorous, sarcastic, and sometimes “troll” the tech community.

Jon Yongfook is a Singaporean tech entrepreneur who founded the automated image creation platform Bannerbear and previously worked at Aviva. His LinkedIn page makes no mention of Apple, instead highlighting his startup and tech experience in Asian markets such as Japan, China, and Singapore.

Liquid Glass is a semi-transparent interface that uses blur effects, circular design, and adaptive navigation, announced by Apple at WWDC 2025 for iOS 26 and macOS Tahoe. The project is being developed by the Human Interface Design team under Craig Federighi and Alan Dye, of course, without Jon Yongfook on the team.
