With over 85% of the population being Thai ethnic people, folk culture, especially Thai folk songs, has become an indispensable "spiritual food" for the people here. Folk songs and dances not only enrich the cultural life, but also act as a strong bond connecting the community, spreading love for the homeland in each song and voice. Therefore, in almost every community and village, many sweet and mellow folk songs have been born. Among them, the most prominent is the poet and folk artist Lo Thanh Xuan in Le village, who has composed hundreds of Thai poems and folk songs, widely used throughout the Thuan Chau region.
Sharing about his inspiration and journey of attachment to folk songs, Mr. Lo Thanh Xuan said: Since childhood, my father taught me poems written in Thai script, which helped me nurture a deep love for ancient Thai epics. In 1986, I began composing poems, folk songs and teaching Thai singing to hundreds of cultural and artistic nuclei of the villages in the commune, with the desire to build a vibrant cultural and artistic movement in Thuan Chau.
The entire Thuan Chau commune currently has over 150 art troupes in 75 groups and villages, each team has from 8-15 members of different ages, mainly farmers, women's union members, youth, the elderly... During the day, they participate in production labor; in the evening, they gather at the cultural house, practicing traditional art performances together, to perform on holidays, New Year's, and exchange programs between villages and communes.
Coming to Pan village, it is easy to feel the vibrant cultural atmosphere and the attachment of the people to the folk songs and traditional dances. From children to the elderly, everyone is excited to sing, dance and participate in the performance. Ms. Luong Thi Thao, from the Pan village youth art troupe, shared: I joined the art troupe since I was in middle school. Growing up, I love the xoè and xep Thai dances of my people even more. Being able to perform folk songs is a source of pride not only for me, but also for the younger generation in the village. We wish to continue and preserve the precious cultural values left by our ancestors.
Identifying the building of grassroots cultural life as the foundation for sustainable development, Thuan Chau commune always pays attention to investing in infrastructure and cultural institutions to serve the people's training and performing arts activities. Currently, 100% of villages and sub-regions have cultural houses; supporting grassroots art troupes to buy speakers, costumes, and props.
Mr. Do Ngoc Quang, Vice Chairman of Thuan Chau Commune People's Committee, said: Thuan Chau Commune was established on the basis of merging Thuan Chau Town and Chieng Ly, Chieng Pac, Tong Lenh, Thom Mon communes, becoming one of the localities with a very strong cultural and artistic movement, with many grassroots art troupes operating actively. The commune has developed a plan to coordinate with the province's professional agencies to organize training courses on skills, guide the collection and preservation of ancient melodies, contributing to improving the quality of the core team of grassroots art troupes. At the same time, promoting the role of folk artists in teaching folk songs and dances to the younger generation, linking the art movement with the development of community tourism .
With the active participation of the Party Committee, the government and the awareness of preserving culture in each person, especially the young generation, the cultural and artistic movement in Thuan Chau is truly becoming an important spiritual driving force, creating a unique identity, contributing to building a new countryside rich in identity and developing sustainable community tourism. Thai folk songs resound throughout Muong Muoi, like a lasting source that lives forever with time.
