Suoi Nuoc Vang is located in the special-use forest of Nong Son Elephant Species and Habitat Conservation Area, Que Son District ( Quang Nam ). Unlike streams originating from natural forests with clear blue water, this stream has yellow water all year round.

The stream originates from Hon Mo Mountain, in the core of the special-use forest. The streambed is about 20 m wide at its widest point, steep, rocky, and flanked by primeval forests. Along the stream, there are many deep pools of stagnant water that look black from afar and yellow when approaching.

The stream flows through Khe Dien 2 bridge, Dong Truong Son road in Phuoc Ninh commune, few people pass by.

Mr. Dung, a local, said that his father told him that during the French colonial period, the Nong Son coal mining activities scattered pine seeds from Hon Mo mountain to Na Lau. This mountain is high but has flat terrain and a cold climate. After the pine trees grew, they created a large forest. Currently, there are many ancient trees in the forest, one person cannot hug them.

The upstream stream flowing out of the pine forest has yellow water and foam. According to the locals, the yellow water is due to the pine forest. There are few fish, shrimp, and snails living along the stream. The stream is located dozens of kilometers away from residential areas and is not affected by humans.

Originating from the pine forest, the stream flows dozens of kilometers downstream, to Khe Dien 2 bridge and flows into Thu Bon river and remains yellow and foamy all year round.

The water in each rapid creates large foam patches.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, Que Trung commune, said that she and her family went to Nuoc Vang stream to play and have a meal. "On summer weekends, Nong Son people often come to this stream to play because of the cool climate," she said.

The water from the stream in the plastic bottle is clearly yellow like tea, different from the streams in the Nong Son Elephant Species and Habitat Conservation Area.

Foam washed up on the shores, forming large patches that looked like snow. Mr. Truong Ngoc Vu, Chairman of Phuoc Ninh Commune, said the water in this stream has always been yellow. "There are no residential areas or industrial zones at the source of the stream, just natural forests," he said, adding that the reason for the yellow water was not yet clear.

Foam block about 30 cm high, 2 m2 wide accumulated under Khe Dien 2 bridge.

Mr. Tran Van Tan, from Tam Ky City, was passing Khe Dien 2 Bridge when he saw the yellow water flowing out, so he stopped to observe. "This is the first time I have seen a stream flowing out of the forest naturally with a yellow color, creating white foam along the banks," he said, adding that at first he thought it was wastewater discharged from a factory, but looking at the map, he saw that the source was green forest with no residents.

The stream is located in the middle of a special-use forest with a fresh, cool climate and many rocky beaches. Since the Dong Truong Son road passed through, more people have known about it and come to experience it. Although the water is yellow, many people who have bathed in it said they did not experience any itching or allergies.

2 km southeast of the Golden Water Stream, the Clear Water Stream flows from the Nong Son Elephant Species and Habitat Conservation Area special-use forest, but the water is crystal clear, allowing you to see the bottom. Because the two streams are close together but have different water colors, the locals named them the Golden Water Stream and the Clear Water Stream.

Mr. Mai Van Duong, Director of Nong Son Elephant Species and Habitat Conservation Area, said that so far there has been no research to determine the reason why the stream has yellow water. However, local people believe that the source is a pine forest, and fallen leaves decompose, causing the water to turn yellow.

"In my opinion, it's not because of the pine forest, but maybe the geology here has a high PH level, so it's acidic and alum-rich, causing the water to flow yellow all year round," he said, adding that in the past, people and tourists came to visit and play at the Golden Water Stream, but because they didn't follow the procedures, the reserve banned entry. Currently, the reserve is submitting a tourism development project.
