On August 27, the Bac Ninh Department of Health said that Bac Ninh General Hospital No. 1 ( Bac Giang Ward, Bac Ninh Province) had an initial report on citizens' complaints about being "ripped off" for an ambulance ride from Bac Ninh to Thai Nguyen; temporarily suspended 3 officials to clarify the case of an ambulance traveling 200 km and charging 21 million VND.
Specifically, Bac Ninh General Hospital No. 1 has decided to temporarily suspend NTT (officer, Department of Intensive Care - Anti-Poison, head nurse on duty); VVG (labor contract under the Administrative Management Department - driver of the patient transport vehicle) and NVT (labor contract under the Department of Intensive Care - Anti-Poison, nurse escorting the patient) to serve the verification of people's reflection that the ambulance transported the patient about 200 km but collected up to 21 million VND.
According to the patient's family, on August 15, 2025, Mr. NVT (born in 1977, a freelance worker) fell seriously ill while at work. Mr. T was taken to the emergency room at Bac Ninh General Hospital No. 1 in critical condition and had to be treated in the Intensive Care - Anti-Poison Department.
After many days of treatment without progress, on August 19, the family asked to take Mr. T back to his hometown. After completing the procedures and signing the commitment, the family asked for a hospital car to transport him back and was assisted by a doctor to contact an outside ambulance to transport the patient back to Thai Nguyen .
However, due to disagreement on the price before transporting patient NVT to Thai Nguyen, the driver quoted the price of the car at 22 million VND. Later, due to the family's financial difficulties, the price was reduced to 21 million VND (of which 4 million VND was for the doctor who accompanied the car). Although the price was high, the family paid the driver in full due to the urgency.
After finishing the funeral for Mr. T, on August 25, Ms. NAT (patient T's daughter) contacted the driver and he confirmed that he charged the correct price. Immediately after that, Ms. T shared information about this transportation fare on Facebook and received a lot of attention.
At 8:00 p.m. on August 25, the driver contacted and returned 15 million VND and an additional 1 million VND for incense offerings to Mr. NVT. On August 26, the leaders of Bac Ninh General Hospital No. 1 and the bus company came to apologize to the family for this incident.
On August 26, the Bac Ninh Department of Health requested that Bac Ninh General Hospital No. 1 quickly inspect and verify the incident, clarify the responsibilities of related individuals and organizations, especially whether or not there was collusion between hospital staff and outside transportation services for profit. If violations are detected, the unit must strictly handle them according to current regulations and report the results to the Department as soon as possible.
