Regarding the incident where dozens of workers were hospitalized after lunch, the Food Safety and Hygiene Department said that at 3:00 p.m. on December 6, the unit received information about a suspected food poisoning incident at Premium Fashion Vietnam Co., Ltd. (WHA Industrial Park, Nghi Loc) and JTEC Nghe An Co., Ltd. (VSIP Industrial Park, Hung Nguyen). Immediately after receiving the information, the Department reported to the Department of Health , established an investigation team to verify the incident and reported the initial investigation results.
Accordingly, the incident occurred at Premium Fashion Vietnam Co., Ltd. (WHA IndustrialZone 1, Nghi Loc District, Nghe An ) and JTEC Nghe An Co., Ltd. (VSIP Nghe An Industrial Park, Hung Nguyen District, Nghe An). Both companies where workers were hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning received lunch from BAC Trading Joint Stock Company (No. 340, Dang Thai Mai Street, Hung Dong, Vinh City, Nghe An). According to records, the first poisoning case appeared at around 1:00 p.m. the same day, the total number of people who ate lunch suspected of food poisoning was 1,215.
After the meal, 84 people had to be hospitalized with symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, rash... Immediately after the incident, those with symptoms were taken to Nghi Loc District General Hospital, Cua Lo Medical Center, 115 General Hospital, Cua Dong General Hospital for emergency treatment and treatment with IV fluids, digestive enzymes and anti-allergy drugs. The patients were diagnosed at the hospital with food poisoning and grade 1 anaphylaxis.
By 8 p.m. the same day, 43 people had stabilized and were discharged from the hospital, while 41 cases were still being monitored. Upon verification, the workers' lunch included dishes such as rice, fried silver pomfret, boiled eggs, stir-fried pickles with meat, stir-fried vegetables, braised meat with radish, sour soup, and oranges for dessert.
The authorities have collected food samples for testing to clarify the cause. At the same time, they have inspected the catering facility, BAC Trading Joint Stock Company. During the inspection, the owner of the facility has not yet presented a Certificate of training in food safety and hygiene knowledge, health certificates of 5/11 employees directly involved in food processing, contracts for providing meals to units and contracts for providing food and food ingredients.
The three-step food inspection book and food sample storage book were presented but not recorded properly. Regarding the actual conditions at the facility, at the time of the investigation, it was noted that the facility had some shortcomings such as the hygiene of the areas was not guaranteed. The arrangement of the areas was not reasonable. There were harmful insects and animals in the preliminary processing and processing areas. The implementation of the three-step food inspection regime and the storage of food samples were not properly followed.
Head of the Nghe An Food Safety and Hygiene Department Pham Ngoc Quy informed that the unit has sent samples for testing to determine the cause of the incident. Continue to coordinate with Nghi Loc District General Hospital, 115 General Hospital, Cua Dong Hospital, Cua Lo Medical Center and other emergency and treatment facilities to grasp the situation of the patients, continue to investigate and report promptly according to regulations.
Temporarily suspend the operation of the catering unit BAC Trading Joint Stock Company (business location No. 340, Dang Thai Mai Street, Hung Dong, Vinh City, Nghe An). At the same time, request the facility to correct the existing problems and report to the Department of Food Safety and Hygiene. Regarding this incident, Nghe An Department of Health requested Nghi Loc District People's Committee to direct the Food Safety and Hygiene Steering Committee, District Health Department, WHA Nghe An Industrial Park Management Board and companies to coordinate with medical units in the process of handling, investigating and providing emergency care to patients with food poisoning.
Nghi Loc General Hospital, 115 General Hospital, and Cua Dong General Hospital organize the reception, emergency care, treatment, and monitoring of patients suspected of food poisoning. Coordinate well in providing professional and human resources support and promptly transport patients with severe food poisoning to higher-level medical facilities when beyond professional capacity.
Review and prepare human resources, medicine, supplies, medical equipment, and hospital beds to the maximum extent possible, receive, handle, and treat transferred patients.
Coordinate with the Department of Food Safety and Hygiene, Nghi Loc District Medical Center to provide medical records, clinical and paraclinical test results and related information to serve the handling and investigation of the case. Collect samples, preserve and hand over to the unit in charge of the investigation to send for testing to determine the cause.
Nghe An General Hospital has directed the foreign emergency team to be ready to support the above hospitals and lower level units if necessary.
