DTO - Tam Nong district, a resilient land with a glorious revolutionary tradition, has experienced 42 proud years since its re-establishment (February 23, 1983). From a land with many difficulties, Tam Nong today has risen up, put on a new, modern, dynamic coat, and become a bright spot in the development of ecological agriculture, green economy and new rural construction in the Mekong Delta region.
Green aspirations on low-lying land
Sharing about the impressive breakthroughs of Tam Nong homeland after 42 years of construction and development, Mr. Chau Van Bo - Standing Deputy Secretary of Tam Nong District Party Committee, excitedly said: “In 1983, the whole district had only 15,000 hectares of rice land, with an output of 32,000 tons. By 2024, the area had increased to 70,350 hectares, the output reached 445,515 tons, and the average income per capita reached 66.9 million VND/year. This is a great step forward compared to the first days of re-establishment”.
The economic structure of Tam Nong district has positive changes. Agriculture still plays an important role (43.79%), the construction industry (33.18%) and trade and services (20.03%) have made strong progress. Two effectively operating industrial clusters have created thousands of jobs for people in rural areas. In particular, Tam Nong's honor of achieving the new rural district standard in 2024 is a historical milestone, affirming the comprehensive achievements of the locality.
With its agricultural strengths, Tam Nong district is constantly innovating and pioneering in ecological production models and smart agriculture. Ecological rice models associated with Sarus Crane conservation, linked rice seed production, circular agriculture, organic agriculture, and VietGAP have been widely replicated, bringing high and sustainable economic efficiency.
In the long-term strategy, Tam Nong actively implements the Project "Sustainable development of 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation" with more than 5,000 hectares. From muddy dirt roads, Tam Nong builds a synchronous inter-commune and inter-hamlet traffic network, effectively serving trade and people's lives. Irrigation works are invested in and upgraded, ensuring irrigation, contributing to sustainable agricultural production, adapting to climate change. The motto "The State and the People work together" has mobilized the combined strength, realizing dreams of concrete bridges, straight roads and fertile green fields.

Strive to become a livable countryside
Sharing his pride in witnessing his hometown changing dramatically, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan - Director of Quyet Tien Ecological Agricultural Production Cooperative (Phu Thanh A commune), confided: “In the past, my hometown was considered one of the remote areas of Tam Nong district, because transportation was inconvenient, roads were difficult to travel, muddy in the rainy season, and dusty in the dry season. Now, thanks to the new rural construction program, the rural traffic system has been concreted, spacious and clean, not only creating convenience for people to travel and trade but also attracting domestic and foreign tourists to visit and experience the unique ecological agricultural models of the locality. The cooperative is currently implementing an ecological rice growing model combined with fish farming in the flood season and developing experiential tourism. Thanks to that, the income of members has increased significantly, life is becoming more and more stable”.
Quyet Tien Ecological Agricultural Production Cooperative is just one of many typical models, demonstrating the spirit of innovation, creativity and dynamism of Tam Nong farmers. Currently, farmers not only produce agriculture but also become community tourism workers, actively participating in the work of preserving the natural ecosystem.
Mr. Chau Van Bo - Standing Deputy Secretary of Tam Nong District Party Committee, said: "In the coming time, Tam Nong will continue to choose the path of sustainable development, always putting people at the center of all policies, focusing on environmental protection and green economic development, creating harmony between economic growth and conservation of natural values".
Looking back on the 42-year journey from the early days of re-establishment with many difficulties to the proud achievements of today, Tam Nong has continuously improved the material and spiritual life of the people, contributing to the development journey of Dong Thap province in the period of innovation and deep integration...
