(NLDO) - Coach Kim Sang-sik has listed 35 U22 Vietnam players to prepare for the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Tournament, including a new player currently playing for Thanh Hoa Club.

Striker Nguyen Ngoc My stood out in the U19 Dong A Thanh Hoa team that won the 2023 National U19 Championship and was honored as the tournament's Best Player. In 2024, Ngoc My continued to win the title of "Top Scorer" at the National U21 Championship, making a great contribution to helping U21 Dong A Thanh Hoa win third place overall.

The striker, born in 2004, has played 13 matches for Thanh Hoa in the 2024-2025 V-League, scoring 2 goals. During the Vietnam national team training session in March 2025, Ngoc My was given the opportunity to play for the U23 national team for the first time by coach Kim Sang-sik, but missed the opportunity due to an injury in the 1/8 round match of the 2024-2025 National Cup.

Ngoc My is expected to replace Bui Vi Hao, the player who was injured and could not recover in time to join the U22 Vietnam team this time. Compared to Binh Duong 's striker, Ngoc My has less playing experience but has the ability to attack the flank and finish effectively like his senior.

The core force of U22 Vietnam preparing for the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship is still the veterans who contributed to helping the home team win this tournament in 2023, including: goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien, defender Nguyen Hong Phuc, midfielder Nguyen Van Truong, Khuat Van Khang, Dinh Xuan Tien, strikers Nguyen Dang Duong, Le Dinh Long Vu and Nguyen Quoc Viet.

The list of players this time also includes two promising overseas Vietnamese players: midfielder Le Viktor (Hong Linh Ha Tinh Club) and striker Bui Alex (team B of Bohemians Praha 1905, playing in the Czech Republic's Third Division).

According to the plan, the U22 Vietnam team will gather for training from June 26 in Ba Ria Vung Tau. On July 14, Mr. Kim and his team will leave for Indonesia to participate in the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, taking place from July 15 to 29. In the group stage, U22 Vietnam will face Laos (July 19) and Cambodia (July 22).
