Tan Hung produces rice in an organic direction with higher profits

Việt NamViệt Nam03/01/2024

The average rice yield of Agricultural Cooperative 22/12, Vinh Dai commune reached 6.3 tons/ha.

Currently, the rice area in the organic production model of the Agricultural Cooperative 22/12 (22/12) in Vinh Dai commune, Tan Hung district, Long An province, has begun to be harvested, with profits 5-6 million VND/ha higher than outside fields.

Accordingly, in the 2023-2024 Winter-Spring crop, Vinh Dai Commune's 22/12 Agricultural Cooperative will cooperate with Khai Phuc Loc Joint Stock Company to pilot an organic rice farming model with an area of 70 hectares.

During the cultivation process, the Company provides organic fertilizers, biological products and instructions for rice production according to organic processes; supports the cost of basal fertilizer and 9 sprayings of biological products. In case the yield in this field is lower than outside, the Company will provide additional support to equal the average yield of the field in the area; at the same time, buy rice from farmers at a price 200 VND/kg higher than the market price at the time of harvest.

Currently, 15 hectares out of a total area of 70 hectares in the model have been harvested, with a yield of 6.3 tons/ha, 600-800kg/ha lower than the rice area outside, and a current selling price of 9,900 VND/kg. However, thanks to low input costs, the company supports productivity and purchases at a price 200 VND/kg higher than the market, so after deducting costs, the area in the model gives a profit 5-6 million VND/ha higher than the outside.

This is a model to help farmers change their traditional rice farming habits, towards green, sustainable agricultural production, minimizing environmental pollution, improving the quality of agricultural products, and increasing competitiveness in the market.

Organic rice production also helps farmers reduce investment costs and increase profits on the same cultivated area. Currently, the remaining 55 hectares are in the ripening stage and are expected to be harvested in the next few days./.
