A recent report by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) on the state of the world's children 2023 with the theme "Vaccines for every child" shows that 67 million children worldwide missed one or more doses of vaccine during more than three years of the Covid-19 pandemic (2019-2021). The reason is that vaccination services were disrupted due to overloaded health systems, scarce and fragmented resources, and conflict. Of these, nearly 250,000 children in Vietnam were not fully vaccinated. Lack of vaccines and weakened immunity from vaccines can lead to the risk of widespread disease outbreaks, affecting community immunity, threatening the health system as well as people's lives.
Signing of strategic cooperation in providing vaccines to people
The World Health Organization (WHO) is calling for large-scale catch-up efforts for all children in Vietnam who missed routine vaccinations during the pandemic, restoring full immunization coverage to at least 2019 levels, to avoid any outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases in Vietnam in the near future.
Faced with this situation, recently, EPLUS Research Company and GSK Vietnam Pharmaceutical Company Limited signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation, committing to increasing access to new vaccines and timely disease prevention for Vietnamese people, especially high-risk groups such as pregnant women, the elderly, and people with underlying diseases (diabetes, kidney failure, high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, heart failure, hepatitis, asthma, osteoarthritis, etc.).
Accordingly, the long-term strategic cooperation memorandum between the two sides aims to improve the effectiveness of health care and bring long-term quality of life to the Vietnamese people, through many important activities such as establishing a sustainable and continuous vaccine supply chain, including existing vaccines and new vaccines in the future, expanding vaccine coverage to all subjects, raising public awareness of the role of vaccines in protecting the health of themselves and their families, etc.
Vaccination is also one of the best investments in health that governments and families can make. According to UNICEF estimates, the cost of medical examination and treatment is 16 times more expensive than the cost of vaccination. For example, every 100 USD (about 2.5 million VND) invested in vaccination saves 1,600 USD (about 40 million VND) in medical examination and treatment costs. Mr. Ngo Chi Dung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EPLUS Research Joint Stock Company, said: Currently, we have invested in the most modern vaccine supply network in Vietnam with nearly 120 cold storages and a preservation chain system at each VNVC vaccination center, which can even preserve vaccines at minus 86 degrees Celsius, meeting international standards for the entire process of preservation, transportation, supply and use. This can help preserve and provide vaccines to prevent diseases for people.
