Increase your chances of getting into university.

Báo Đại Đoàn KếtBáo Đại Đoàn Kết03/03/2025

This year, in addition to the high school graduation exam, university admissions will also undergo many changes compared to previous years. The admissions regulations are expected to be issued by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) this March.

Avoid neglecting your studies in the second semester.

According to information from the Ministry of Education and Training, the draft Circular amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Regulations on university-level admissions and college-level admissions for early childhood education is currently in the final stages of the legal document drafting process and will be issued as early as the beginning of March 2025.

Compared to the current regulations issued with Circular No. 08/2022/TT-BGDĐT, the new regulations have several notable adjustments.

In particular, the Ministry of Education and Training will abolish the regulation on early admissions. This new regulation has caused many 12th-grade students to worry about a reduction in their chances of getting into university. However, the Ministry of Education and Training affirms that the admission opportunities for candidates will not be narrowed.

Schools may have multiple admission methods, but the new point this year is that schools will not be allowed to announce the list of eligible candidates early as in previous years. Instead, they must wait until students receive their high school graduation exam results before considering all methods simultaneously, including the method using high school graduation exam results.

Educational institutions will also have to convert the admission scores from various methods into a single common score and consider applicants from highest to lowest until all available slots are filled. These new points aim to ensure fairness for applicants applying through different methods, not to reduce opportunities for candidates.

One of the important adjustments that candidates need to be aware of this year's admissions season is the regulation that if universities use the method of university admission based on academic transcripts, they must consider the scores of the entire second semester of 12th grade, instead of only considering the scores of 5 semesters, including grades from 10th grade, 11th grade, and the second semester of 12th grade as in previous years.

With the changes in the new regulations, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy - Director of the Department of Higher Education, noted that 12th-grade students must not be negligent, careless, or overconfident in their studies during the final semester of high school. This is also a crucial time when students need to focus on reviewing to prepare well for the high school graduation exam.

No limit on the number of application choices.

Providing more details on the adjustments to this year's admission regulations, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy stated that when candidates register for admission to universities in the same round, on the same system, the selection process will take place after the high school graduation exam. This allows students to focus entirely on the exam. Afterward, they can register their preferences in order of priority from 1 to the last, with no limit on the number of preferences. Therefore, the opportunity for candidates to enter university is very high.

Offering advice to candidates on choosing their preferences, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy noted that candidates can prioritize their favorite universities, followed by colleges with programs that allow for articulation into their desired university. This serves as a backup in case they are not yet qualified to enter their desired university. They can then study at a corresponding college to transfer to that university.

According to the Director of the Department of Higher Education, the admission regulations have always included provisions for students pursuing further education. This year, the Ministry of Education and Training will submit to the Prime Minister a decree on articulation between different levels of education within the national education system. This will create even more open principles to help students easily transfer within the system.

"Especially when the Ministry of Education and Training unifies management across all levels of education, from primary and secondary to college, university, master's, and doctoral degrees, the convenience and ease of articulation will increase even further. Therefore, students can rest assured when applying to universities and colleges nationwide," Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy emphasized.
