Strengthening cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and localities of the Czech Republic in the coming time

On November 19, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc met with President of the Senate of the Czech Republic Milos Vystrcil, within the framework of his official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

The visit takes place at a time when Vietnam and the Czech Republic celebrate the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations (1950-2025) and marks a practical step after the two governments agreed to upgrade relations to a Strategic Partnership in January 2025.

In his welcoming speech, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc expressed his appreciation for the long-standing traditional friendship between Vietnam and the Czech Republic.

The Chairman of the City People's Committee emphasized that the Czech Republic is currently an important partner of Vietnam in Europe, with two-way trade turnover reaching over 2 billion USD per year. Many areas of cooperation between the two countries continue to record positive progress such as manufacturing industry, environmental technology, healthcare-pharmaceuticals, education -training, science-technology and people-to-people exchange.

Currently, there are about 100,000 Vietnamese people living in the Czech Republic. Notably, the Czech Government has recognized the Vietnamese Czech community as the 14th ethnic minority. This is a vivid demonstration of the friendship and deep integration between the two communities.

In an exchange with the President of the Senate of the Czech Republic, Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc said that Ho Chi Minh City is ready to accompany Czech enterprises in areas where the Czech Republic has strengths and proposed further cooperation in the fields of education and training; manufacturing industry and technical equipment; environmental technology, water and waste treatment.

The Chairman of the City People's Committee said that this is also a suitable field for the development orientation of Ho Chi Minh City in the coming time.

Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc also informed that after the reorganization, Ho Chi Minh City (new) is oriented to become a megacity with a lot of potential and room for strong development. The city is also preparing to form an International Financial Center, opening up opportunities for deeper cooperation with international partners, especially from the Czech Republic.

The city chairman also proposed that the Czech Embassy continue to promote activities to introduce the culture, products, science and technology of the Czech Republic to Vietnam. From there, promote trade of goods from the Czech Republic to Vietnam.

President of the Senate of the Czech Republic Milos Vystrcil affirmed that the traditional friendship between Vietnam and the Czech Republic is built on the common foundation of love for peace and aspiration for independence and freedom.

Ho Chi Minh City is the most dynamic and prosperous locality in Vietnam, so many Czech enterprises want to seek investment opportunities, promote trade and boost import-export turnover based on the traditional relationship between the two countries. On that basis, he agreed with the proposal of Ho Chi Minh City leaders on promoting comprehensive cooperation in many fields.

Regarding environment and energy, the two sides have identified the goal of enhancing cooperation in wastewater treatment, waste management, and renewable energy development, which are very important issues, especially in the context of climate change that is clearly affecting Vietnam.

At the reception, the two sides agreed to continue promoting the spirit of cooperation, mutual support and further developing the relationship, contributing to deepening the Vietnam-Czech Republic strategic partnership in the new period.

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc expressed his belief that the visit of President of the Senate of the Czech Republic Milos Vystrcil will be a new milestone in promoting relations between Ho Chi Minh City and localities of the Czech Republic, moving towards extensive, effective and sustainable cooperation in many fields.

On the same afternoon, President of the Senate of the Czech Republic Milos Vystrcil visited and talked with students of Ton Duc Thang University (Ho Chi Minh City).
