Visiting the Math review session at class 9A2, Xuan Hoa Secondary School (Lap Thach), we were impressed by the image of teacher Luu Van Sang meticulously guiding students through each type of exercise, step by step. The serious but friendly classroom atmosphere helps students reduce pressure and stress.
Mr. Sang shared: “The entrance exam for grade 10 high school has entered the “sprint” stage. Currently, I am focusing on systematizing all the core knowledge of the grade 9 Math program, practicing exercises from basic to advanced, combining multiple choice and essay questions.
Students also practice exam formats with structures and levels corresponding to the Department of Education and Training's sample exams to get familiar with them and avoid mistakes; at the same time, they can refer to mock high school entrance exams from other schools to diversify exam formats...
Along with that, I actively grade and correct papers, learn from experience and coordinate closely with parents to promptly adjust learning methods suitable for each student to help them progress."
Teacher Nguyen Quoc Quan, Principal of Xuan Hoa Secondary School said: "In the 2025-2026 school year, the school has 165 9th grade students, 100% of whom registered for the entrance exam to grade 10 high school.
Right from the beginning of the school year, the school's Board of Directors has directed teachers of all subjects to focus on ensuring the quality of teaching the main curriculum. Review work is carried out in accordance with regulations, especially since Circular No. 29 of the Ministry of Education and Training was issued.
Through the tests and surveys, students have made remarkable progress, some have improved by 50 levels; English has increased by 8 levels in the district's scorecard. Currently, this is the final stage, the school bases its decision on students' abilities, level of awareness, and wishes to arrange classes and divide them into study groups.
The good and excellent groups who wish to take the entrance exam to high schools will focus on practicing advanced questions to achieve a score of 8 or higher; the average and weak groups will receive more support in test-taking skills, time allocation, and avoiding basic mistakes to help students improve their ability to strive to achieve 5-7 points and not let weak students receive a failing score.
Teachers also use social networking platforms to send homework, practice tests, correct and grade papers, etc. to help students conveniently review at home. The Board of Directors also directs teachers to closely coordinate with parents to regularly talk, encourage and provide psychological counseling to ensure students' mental health.
As one of the most disadvantaged areas in the province, with many ethnic minority students, the review work for the 10th grade entrance exam at Yen Duong Secondary School (Tam Dao) is more difficult.
Ms. Ta Thi Ngoc My, Principal of the school, said: "To improve the qualityof education , from the beginning of the year, the school has directed teachers to make efforts to effectively implement regular teaching and organize free tutoring for students with poor academic performance.
The review work for the 10th grade entrance exam is organized in accordance with regulations, in the spirit of serving students and ensuring the highest efficiency. The school increases testing and organizes mock exams so that students can get used to the pressure of the exam room and promptly detect gaps in knowledge to supplement.
In addition, the school directs teachers to exploit technology so that review is not limited by space and time. Teachers focus on consolidating basic and core knowledge; flexibly use the time at the end of early dismissal sessions to guide students in free review; coordinate with parents to implement a model of tutoring students online in the early morning and evening. Teachers always accompany, encourage and help students feel confident before the exam.
Thanks to the proactive implementation of educational plans by schools and the dedicated guidance of teachers, grade 9 students clearly see the importance of the exam and are proactive and actively studying.
Nguyen Thi Ha Trang, class 9C, Yen Duong Secondary School shared: "With the desire to pass the high school entrance exam in Tam Dao district and not disappoint the expectations, guidance and support of my parents and teachers, I always try my best to study.
Thanks to that, my final exam scores for the three subjects were stable at 8 - 8.5 points. Currently, I am actively redoing the exercises in the exam questions given by my teachers; finding more materials on educational websites, fanpages, online study groups...
The 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year will take place on June 1 and 2, 2025, with three subjects: Math, Literature and English. This is the first year of the exam according to the 2018 General Education Program. The 10th grade entrance exam is designed to develop thinking ability, apply practical knowledge and logical reasoning ability.
The new requirements pose a significant challenge to both teachers and students. Teachers must change their teaching methods, and increase guidance for students to learn and understand instead of learning by heart. Students cannot learn by rote, but must understand the essence and know how to apply knowledge to specific situations.
In many secondary schools and inter-level schools, the review work has been systematically built from the beginning of the school year. In the final stage, schools urgently review the entire program, systematize key knowledge, and at the same time guide students to consolidate knowledge and test-taking skills.
With thorough preparation from the school, the dedication of teachers and the determination of each student, candidates will have a solid knowledge foundation and a strong spirit to enter the exam and achieve high results.
