Việt NamViệt Nam26/12/2024

Coach Nguyen Quoc Hung shared: In 2024, the Taekwondo team will conduct training and participate in 4 out of 4 domestic tournaments and 3 international tournaments, including the Asian Taekwondo Championships in Da Nang, the Southeast Asian University Games Taekwondo Championships in Indonesia, and the World Poomsae Taekwondo Championships in Hong Kong.

Regarding professional matters, Mr. Hung stated that the team has received in-depth attention and investment from the leaders of the sports sector, especially the Binh Thuan Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center and related units, which have created favorable conditions for the sport. In addition, thanks to the enthusiastic support and assistance of parents, as well as the dedicated care and help of Mr. Nguyen Thanh Huy, head coach of the Vietnamese Taekwondo team.

The team won a total of 46 medals in 2024 out of 30 assigned medals, achieving a success rate of 153.33%. The team's success is due to the enthusiastic training of the coaching staff and the determination of the athletes, who view training and competition as their responsibility and duty, always striving their best for the national sports and physical education in general and for Binh Thuan province in particular. Currently, 12 athletes are studying at universities in Ho Chi Minh City. During the year, they participated in all competitions, meeting and exceeding the set targets, with 9 athletes achieving national master status.

This year, three athletes were selected for the national team: Nguyen Thi Le Kim (born 1992), Nguyen Thi Kim Ha (born 2000), and Tran Phuong Nhung (born 2003). During the year, one athlete received a commendation from the Ministry of Education and Training, and four athletes and one coach received commendations from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for their outstanding achievements in regional, continental, and world competitions in 2024. Ten (four female) athletes were promoted from the youth team to the national team, and nine (six female) athletes were promoted from the talent development team to the youth team.

Currently, the Taekwondo national team's coaching staff consists of four coaches. The coaching staff is a united and enthusiastic team, constantly seeking to learn and improve their professional skills, and striving to achieve all targets and tasks set by the leadership. However, some limitations remain, namely the uneven skill level of the athletes, with most being young, inexperienced, and especially after several National Sports Games where the team has discontinued training for some older athletes.

Furthermore, limited funding has resulted in infrequent participation in competitions, and the equipment used is still too rudimentary to meet current competition demands. In recent years, the number of competitions planned for the Taekwondo team has been too low, preventing them from accumulating sufficient competition experience. The current annual budget allocation of 420 million VND for 3 domestic tournaments across all 3 levels is insufficient. Most current competitions utilize electronic protective gear, meaning our athletes have limited opportunities to practice with it, leading to less effective results.

Coach Nguyen Quoc Hung added that in 2025, the team will overcome difficulties to continue participating in 4 official domestic competitions and 5 international tournaments with the coaches. We will invite Mr. Nguyen Thanh Huy - Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation, Head Coach of the national Taekwondo Poomsae team - to provide professional support to the team. The coaching staff will strive to overcome limitations, especially regarding competition experience for athletes who are still in university, to ensure effectiveness.
