The slaughterhouse covers an area of nearly 337 square meters, including facilities such as: pig pens, slaughterhouse, and finished product packaging area… The facility can accommodate up to 120 pigs and has a slaughtering capacity of 30 pigs per day. All pigs brought in for slaughter here are inspected and supervised by veterinary authorities to ensure food safety and hygiene.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Binh, a pig trader and slaughterer in residential area 5, Minh Hoa commune, said that she slaughters an average of 2-3 pigs per day. Previously, due to the lack of a centralized slaughterhouse, she had to slaughter pigs at home. Because there was no wastewater collection and treatment system, the pig slaughtering operation inevitably caused environmental pollution in the residential area. Since the commune's centralized pig slaughterhouse became operational, she was the first to register.
"The pork trading business in the area has become more orderly, convenient, and ensures better food safety and hygiene conditions thanks to the centralized slaughterhouse," Ms. Binh shared.

Ms. Cao Thi Tuyet from Minh Hoa commune said: “For a long time, due to the lack of a centralized slaughterhouse, the control of slaughtering and trading of pork has not been given much attention. Therefore, consumers also find it difficult to distinguish and choose safe products on the market. From now on, we feel more secure using pork products slaughtered at a centralized slaughterhouse.”
Minh Hoa is a disadvantaged mountainous commune. The slaughtering and trading of pork in the area is mainly self-sufficient, small-scale, and lacks proper inspection and control. According to Dinh Thanh Binh, Deputy Director of the Minh Hoa Public Works Management Board, in order to meet the people's desire for clean, safe food and ensure environmental hygiene, after the two-tiered local government model came into operation, Minh Hoa commune has focused on directing and investing in the construction of a centralized animal slaughtering facility.
According to Nguyen Viet Cuong, Deputy Head of Livestock and Veterinary Station No. 1, Minh Hoa commune is one of the few localities that has shown interest in and invested in building a centralized animal slaughter facility. This is an inevitable trend and a crucial step in promoting the development of a linked chain from livestock farming, circulation, and consumption between slaughterhouses, markets, and distribution systems, and applying a mandatory traceability mechanism for animal products circulating in the market.
Currently, all 13 small traders who buy and sell pork at Quy Dat market have brought their pigs to the facility for slaughter. The operation of this facility not only eliminates small, informal slaughtering points but also fosters a habit among consumers of consuming safe food with clear origins and traceability, subject to inspection and control according to regulations. In the future, the facility will continue to invest in necessary equipment for packaging finished products, providing consumers with even more products.
