On the morning of February 21, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan had a meeting to welcome and work with the delegation of Larsen & Toubro Group (L&T) from India, one of the largest construction and infrastructure development corporations in the world .

At the meeting, Mr. Narayan M. Vernekar, Director of L&T Heavy Industry Infrastructure, expressed his deep interest in participating in urban railway infrastructure development projects in Hanoi . According to the master plan for the construction of Hanoi Capital by 2030, with a vision to 2050, the city will build 10 urban railway lines with a total length of about 413km. The total investment capital requirement is estimated at 37 billion USD, divided into 3 main phases: 2024-2030, 2031-2035, and 2036-2045. This is a great ambition, aiming to turn Hanoi into a modern capital, closely connected with neighboring areas and creating momentum for socio -economic development.

Currently, Hanoi has put the Cat Linh - Ha Dong urban railway into commercial operation, and is implementing other projects such as the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station line and the Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao line. These projects are all implemented with ODA loan support from international donors such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Meanwhile, L&T is an Indian multinational corporation, operating in many fields from infrastructure construction, energy to high technology. With extensive experience in implementing urban railway projects in India and many countries such as Qatar, Egypt, Mauritius or Saudi Arabia, L&T has affirmed its position in building modern and sustainable transportation systems in the world.

Therefore, with the close cooperation between Hanoi and L&T, future urban railway projects will not only meet the transportation needs of the people but also contribute to promoting the socio-economic development of the city. In particular, connecting the urban railway system with key railway lines across the country such as the North-South high-speed railway, and important traffic gateways such as Noi Bai International Airport, will create a synchronous and effective transportation network.

Not only that, Director Narayan M. Vernekar also expressed interest in other high-speed railway lines in Vietnam. He committed that L&T will work closely with Vietnamese partners to build a sustainable railway ecosystem, helping Vietnam become self-reliant in developing transport infrastructure.
