Focus on combating commercial smuggling

On June 9, the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department held a mid-term review conference on the implementation of the Resolution of the 5th Congress of the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department for the 2020-2025 term. Comrade Nguyen Ho Hai, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee attended and delivered a speech.

7/8 targets achieved and exceeded

The Party Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department currently has 912 members. Since the beginning of the term, in the face of many difficulties, with the efforts of leaders at all levels, party members, and civil servants, the Party Committee of the Customs Department has achieved many remarkable achievements, with 7/8 targets achieved and exceeded.

According to the assessment of the Party Committee of the Customs Department, the work of political and ideological education has been focused on, innovated, and timely followed the Party's policies and guidelines, thereby maintaining solidarity and unity within the Party. The work of Party building has become increasingly practical and effective.

The Party Committee of the Customs Department has successfully completed the assigned political tasks, focusing on the basic targets and tasks stated in the Resolution of the Customs Department Party Congress, contributing to the city's efforts to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic; effectively implementing the dual goal of both ensuring effective disease prevention and socio -economic recovery and development.

Administrative reform, customs modernization, trade facilitation, and information technology application are given special attention with many proactive and creative solutions. Thereby, facilitating import and export activities, shortening customs clearance time and saving costs for businesses, making procedures transparent; combating harassment, negativity and harassment of customs officials.

Along with that, inspection and supervision work was carried out regularly, the effectiveness of inspection and supervision was gradually improved. The Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the Customs Department inspected and supervised 7 Party organizations and 7 Party members. The Inspection Committee of the Party Committee of the Customs Department also organized many thematic inspections and supervisions and when there were signs of violations. Through inspection and supervision, 7 cases were disciplined (5 reprimands, 2 cases were expelled from the Party) and 1 Party member and 1 Party cell were reviewed and lessons learned. The Party Committee of the Department also issued decisions to expel 5 cases from the Party, remove 2 cases from the list of Party members, suspend 4 cases from Party activities, expel 3 cases from the Party and reprimand 12 Party members.

Have solutions to nurture revenue sources

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Ho Hai highly appreciated the activities of the Customs Department Party Committee in recent times, which have made important contributions to the political tasks and development of Ho Chi Minh City.

Comrade Nguyen Ho Hai also suggested many contents for the delegates to discuss and reach consensus. According to him, among 7/8 targets of the Congress resolution that were achieved and exceeded, there was an important target of developing party members that was not achieved. He emphasized that cadre work and cadre organization are important tasks of Party building. Therefore, he requested the Party Committee of the Department to pay more attention and have solutions to effectively implement the above targets. At the same time, combine cadre assessment to carry out appropriate arrangements and rotations; promptly handle cases of fear and avoidance of tasks; have solutions for cadres and party members to voluntarily practice.

Recognizing that the sector is prone to violations, he noted that special attention must be paid to inspection and supervision work at the Party Committee of the Department. “As units with many sensitive positions, if we wait until there are petitions or reports from the press to handle the matter, it will be too late and it is easy to lose cadres,” he emphasized and requested the Party Committee of the Department to focus on preventive solutions, early detection of errors to self-correct, self-inspect, and promptly prevent violations.

According to him, the customs sector has a special feature of having contact with many people and businesses at home and abroad, so it is necessary to focus on the work of government mass mobilization, to show the culture of the city's customs officers and people. At the same time, it is necessary to pay attention to building mass organizations, doing a good job of trade union work to take care of workers, especially retired comrades.

Assessing the important role of the Customs Department in the city's budget collection, he requested the customs force to have solutions to assess the current situation of enterprises, participate in assessing the "health" of the city's economy; at the same time, propose solutions to nurture revenue sources. Along with that, highly focus on combating commercial smuggling, especially smuggling of banned substances.

He believes that the Party Committee of the Department and the leaders of the Department's units will have solutions to excellently complete the set targets; at the same time, research to evaluate and supplement additional targets and tasks suitable to the current situation.

Receiving the direction of Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Ho Hai, Comrade Dinh Ngoc Thang, Party Secretary, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department affirmed that with the spirit of solidarity, always recognizing difficulties, being dynamic and creative, the Party Committee of the Department will focus on completing the targets and objectives set out in the Resolution of the 5th Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department Party Congress. The immediate task is to complete the tasks of 2023 well, continuing to enhance the role of contributing to the development of Ho Chi Minh City.
