On December 23, a drone attack damaged a Liberian-flagged commercial ship off the coast of India, 200km southwest of the country's city of Veraval.
The attack caused no casualties, but caused a fire on board the ship, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations Agency.
Meanwhile, British maritime security firm Ambrey said the “Liberian-flagged, Israel-linked chemical tanker” was attacked while en route from Saudi Arabia to India, resulting in some structural damage.
According to ANI news agency, the ship was carrying crude oil with 20 Indian sailors on board, departing from a port in Saudi Arabia.
The Economist Times reported that the Indian Navy deployed an aircraft over the ship to ensure the safety of the ship and its crew. An Indian Navy warship was also deployed to provide support if needed. No organization or group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
The incident occurred as Houthi forces in Yemen admitted to carrying out a series of missile and drone attacks on ships moving in important shipping routes in the Red Sea.
