The Russian military attacked a German-made Iris-T SLM medium-range air defense system being used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The Russian missile accurately hit the Iris-T SLM system, causing it to explode.
According to SF, the destroyed high-tech air defense system was deployed near the Novomykhailivka settlement in Krivoy Rog. Images from the video show that the ballistic missile used in the attack was most likely an Iskander-M.
Video footage of the attack was released to the media on June 23. The images confirmed earlier reports of the destruction of a launcher and another unidentified vehicle of the system.

Iris-T SLM is a medium-range air defense system equipped with a missile that weighs 87.4 kg and is 2.94 m long. One of the most notable features of this system is that the missile can reach Mach 3 speed. The high speed allows the system to react quickly to airborne threats.
In terms of operating range, the Iris-T SLM can target objects up to 40km away. This range helps defend against medium and long-range threats.
After Russia began its special military operation in Ukraine, Germany promised to supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces with 12 complete Iris-T SLM systems and 12 Iris-T SLS systems. The Iris-T SLM system has a range of 40km and an altitude of 20km, while the range and altitude of the SLS are limited to 12km.
Not all of the systems promised by Germany were delivered to Ukraine, and most of those that were delivered to Ukraine were destroyed or damaged by the Russian military.
In 2024, the Russian military intensified its suppression of enemy air defenses. As a result of these suppressions, Kiev forces lost dozens of radars and air defense systems, including Western-made ones.
