QTO - Nestled amidst the lush green mountains of Kim Dien commune, Thac Mo eco-tourism area stands out as an attractive destination with its pristine and romantic beauty. However, after a long period of development, the potential of Thac Mo has not yet been fully realized to become a worthy destination on the local tourism map.

A captivating natural landscape

Viewed from above, Mo Waterfall appears like a vibrant natural painting, a harmonious blend of the green of the mountains and forests and the white of the water cascading down from the upstream. The water meanders through natural rock formations, creating gentle, winding waterfalls amidst the vast wilderness. The sound of flowing water blends with the chirping of forest birds, creating a unique symphony of nature.

The higher you go, the more impressive the beauty of Thac Mo Waterfall becomes. Large and small rocks jutting out from the water create a unique landscape that is both majestic and poetic.

In the downstream area, the clear stream meanders through rocky outcrops, forming "natural swimming pools" where visitors can cool off on hot days. The most striking feature of the tourist area is the lake, covering more than 500m², formed from the main waterfall.

The lake's clear, cool surface has become a favorite spot for many tourists to enjoy themselves. More than just a place to swim, it's also an ideal space to experience nature, take photos, and capture memorable moments.

Besides its natural scenery, Thac Mo also attracts tourists with its unique local culture and cuisine . Here, visitors can enjoy many rustic dishes with the rich flavors of the mountains and forests, such as: stream fish, stream shrimp, snails, young bees, ant eggs, fern shoots, etc.

Ms. Nguyen Hoang Bao Ngoc, from Truong Ninh commune, shared: "What impressed me most when I came to Thac Mo waterfall was the relatively pristine natural landscape and the local specialties that reflect the unique character of the area. These are experiences that not every tourist destination can offer."

We need to "awaken" the potential.

Despite possessing many outstanding advantages, the actual number of visitors to Thac Mo eco-tourism area is still not commensurate with its existing potential. Currently, the tourist area is operated by Dat Xanh Trading and Service Co., Ltd. The company has invested in some basic facilities such as accommodation, pedestrian bridges for sightseeing, and food and beverage services to meet the needs of tourists.

However, most visitors only come here for a day trip, swimming in the streams and experiencing nature before returning home. The number of overnight stays is very limited. The main reason is that the recreational products and services are still monotonous and lack attractive experiences to retain tourists.

Another limitation is the ineffective connection with travel companies and the development of tour routes. Mo Waterfall still primarily attracts visitors spontaneously, and fixed tour routes linking it to other popular destinations in the province have yet to be established. Furthermore, during prolonged periods of hot weather, the water flow to the waterfall decreases, somewhat diminishing its majestic beauty. This is also one of the factors reducing the destination's attractiveness to tourists.

According to Ms. Dang Thi Na, Director of Dat Xanh Trading and Service Co., Ltd., the company is researching and proposing a plan to improve the water flow to concentrate water at key points of the waterfall. This solution is expected to help maintain the natural beauty and ensure that the waterfall always has enough water to serve the needs of tourists for sightseeing and experiences.

To more effectively exploit the potential of Thac Mo Waterfall, a well-structured and long-term development strategy is needed. The top priority should be investing in more nature-based experiential tourism products such as camping, trekking to explore the forest, water sports activities, creating photo-worthy spaces, and offering local cultural experiences. Alongside this, it's crucial to strengthen promotion on digital platforms, build a unique brand for Thac Mo Waterfall, and connect with travel agencies to create integrated tourism routes.

Mr. Dinh Minh Nam, Vice Chairman of the Kim Dien Commune People's Committee, said: "Developing tourism is one of the key tasks of the locality. The commune government will continue to work alongside businesses, creating favorable conditions to effectively exploit tourism potential; at the same time, promoting investment, improving the quality of tourism products and services in the area, including the Thac Mo ecological tourist area."

With its pristine beauty, cool air, and many unique natural values, Mo Waterfall possesses favorable conditions to become an attractive destination in the summer. With appropriate investment, diversified products, and strengthened tourism linkages, it could not only be an ideal place to cool off but also become one of the important highlights on the journey of exploring nature and experiencing culture when visiting Quang Tri.
