Tay ethnic group
According to the census data, ethnic minorities in Cao Bang account for 95% of the province, of which the Tay ethnic group accounts for the majority with 40.83%, Nung 29.81%, Mong 11.65%, Dao 10.36%, San Chi 1.49%, Lo Lo 0.54%.
The Tay ethnic group is also known as Tho, including the following groups: Ngan, Phen, Thu Lao, Pa Di. Most of the Tay people live along the valleys and low mountain slopes in the provinces of Cao Bang, Lang Son, Bac Can, Thai Nguyen, Quang Ninh and some areas of Bac Giang ... The Tay people have a fairly developed traditional agriculture with a variety of crops such as rice, corn, potatoes and seasonal vegetables.
Tay villages are usually located at the foot of mountains or along streams. Village names are often derived from hills, fields, or river bends. Each village has from 15 to 20 houses. Large villages are divided into many small hamlets. Housing includes stilt houses, earthen houses, and in some border areas, defensive houses.
In the house, the men's room is outside and the women's room is inside. The Tay people usually wear indigo-dyed cotton clothes. The women's shirts are calf-length, have narrow sleeves, a slit on the right armpit, and have five buttons.
