This is a positive signal opening up opportunities for tourism development in the mountainous commune of Quyet Chien, Tan Lac district.

Thung Waterfall (Bac Thung hamlet) is a natural waterfall hidden among the rolling hills. At the end of 2023, the image of a nearly 30m high waterfall, pouring down many layers of rock like a white silk strip, was suddenly widely shared by the travel community on social networking platforms. Since then, Thung Waterfall has gradually become an attractive destination, attracting tourists from near and far to explore . Considered a "sleeping fairy in the forest" because of its pristine beauty with lush vegetation, fresh and cool air, this is a plus point for Thung Waterfall to become an ideal choice for short-term trips of tourists.
Located about 120km from Hanoi and nearly 50km from the center of Hoa Binh city on National Highway 6, the road to Thung waterfall is quite convenient. Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, a resident of Bac Thung hamlet, shared: "The road to Bac Thung hamlet has been concreted to the foot of the waterfall since 2023. From June to September, the number of visitors to the waterfall is the highest. To get to the waterfall, people should go by motorbike or small cars with less than 29 seats."
With an altitude of over 1,000m above sea level, Thung waterfall is beautiful in all seasons, the temperature is always 5 - 70C lower than the surrounding areas. Visitors can follow the trail to walk to the top of the waterfall to fully enjoy the beauty of Thung waterfall and bathe in the natural lake at the foot of the waterfall. In addition, you can camp on the grass, rest in the hut area in the bamboo forest next to the foot of the waterfall, enjoy dishes with the bold flavor of Hoa Binh cuisine served by local people.
When asked about food and accommodation services near Thung waterfall, Mr. Thang enthusiastically guided: "About 500m from Thung waterfall, there is Pang beach resort built by local people and put into operation in early 2024. The beach has a large grassland, resting huts and an area for people to camp and make a fire... Water from Thung waterfall also flows across this grassland so people can bathe right in the resort without having to go up to the waterfall. Here, many specialties are also served such as: bitter bamboo shoots, hill chicken, stream snails, grilled fish, sticky rice... Quyet Chien commune is famous for chayote, tourists can buy it as a gift if it is the right vegetable season".
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh, a teacher in Hoa Binh City, and her family went to Thung waterfall for the first time. She shared: "The children had a weekend off from school, so my family decided to spend a day at Thung waterfall for a picnic. I didn't expect too much because I knew this was a new place, but when I got there, I could only exclaim: it's truly natural. The climate here is cool, the scenery is beautiful, the food the locals cook is delicious and cheap. My children really enjoyed this trip. If Thung waterfall is properly planned and invested in, I believe this will be a place that attracts many tourists."
Coming to Tan Lac highland, in addition to Thung waterfall, visitors can also enjoy the beauty of terraced fields; combine community tourism experiences in Chien hamlet (Van Son commune); visit some caves such as Nui Kien cave, Nam Son cave; check-in, climb mountains, hunt clouds at Lung Van peak; explore nature at Ngoc Son - Ngo Luong Nature Reserve...
With its existing potential and strengths, Tan Lac district tourism in general and Thung waterfall tourism in particular need to have a stronger transformation. Thereby, it not only improves the quality of life for the people but also contributes to preserving, conserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of the nation.
