Thailand is hot as fire, warning that capital Bangkok exceeds 50 degrees Celsius

The Thai Meteorological Department has predicted that Krabi will be the hottest place in Thailand on April 9, with a heat index of 54.2 degrees Celsius. The second hottest place in Thailand is Bang Na district in Bangkok, where the heat index is expected to soar to 50.2 degrees Celsius. The three other hot areas in the country are Phetchabun (heat index of 44.3 degrees Celsius), Chonburi (heat index of 43.2 degrees Celsius) and Chok Chai district in Nakhon Ratchasima (heat index of 41.3 degrees Celsius). The heat index is a concept that refers to the level of heat that the human body can actually feel. It is a combination of relative humidity, air temperature and wind speed. Thai authorities warn that people who are outdoors in temperatures between 41 degrees Celsius and 54 degrees Celsius are at risk of cramps and heatstroke. The Thai Meteorological Department has four warning levels corresponding to each corresponding heat index range, including: Watch (green, heat index 27-32 degrees Celsius), warning (yellow, heat index 32-41 degrees Celsius), dangerous (orange, 41-54 degrees Celsius) and very dangerous (red, heat index above 54 degrees Celsius). Heatstroke during the hot season in Thailand can cause serious consequences. Earlier this month, politician and tycoon Chonsawat Asavahame, 54, died from the condition. Heatstroke occurs when the body temperature rises above 40 degrees Celsius. Heatstroke prevents the body from sweating because blood circulation is poor. Other symptoms that may occur include confusion, fatigue, slurred speech, loss of consciousness and convulsions. If not treated promptly, a person with heatstroke can die.
