This event offers hope for an end to the weeks-long series of violent clashes along the border between the two countries.
According to a joint statement from the Special Border Committee released by the Cambodian side, both sides committed to immediately cease all military activities: “Both sides agree to an immediate ceasefire following the signing of this Joint Statement, effective from 12 noon (local time) on December 27, 2025.”

Border conflicts between the two countries, which flared up again this month, have broken previous agreements and caused serious consequences. Official statistics show that the conflict has claimed the lives of more than 40 people and forced approximately 1 million people to flee their homes.
The fighting was not confined to a single hotspot but spread across most provinces along the shared border between the two countries. Throughout this period, both Thailand and Cambodia accused the other of initiating the conflict, asserting that their actions were solely for self-defense, while also accusing the other of attacking civilians.
In July, a ceasefire brokered by the US, China, and Malaysia was signed after five days of bloody fighting, but it was quickly broken. Therefore, this latest agreement has sparked hope for long-term stability for millions of people living along the border between the two countries.
