Consulting on completing FSC forest certification dossiers for cooperatives

The Provincial Cooperative Union has just held a conference to consult with stakeholders about the application for FSC forest certification for cooperatives in the province in 2024.

 

Mr. Le Thanh Lam, Chairman of the Provincial Cooperative Union, Director of the FSC Forest Certification Development Management Board of the Provincial Cooperative Union and Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Phuong ( Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry), National Coordinator of Project VIE8701 towards the restoration of small-scale forestry in Vietnam co-chaired the conference.

 

The units invited for consultation include the Provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations, the Tay Hoa District Protective Forest Management Board; the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Phu Hoa District; the People's Committees of Hoa My Tay, Hoa Phu communes (Tay Hoa district), Hoa Dinh Tay communes (Phu Hoa district) and 3 cooperatives: Hoa My Tay Agricultural Service Business , Hoa Phu Agricultural Service Business, Hoa Dinh Tay Agricultural Service.

 

After listening to the consultant presenting the forest certification application documents of 3 cooperatives, the consulting parties provided additional comments, clarified and proposed opinions related to forest fire prevention plans for scattered forest areas, linked trade promotion to find outlets for households growing certified production forests, and developed a plan to expand the issuance of certificates to households that are not cooperative members and have not participated in Project VIE8701...

 

Project VIE8701 is funded by the Finnish Agency for Food and Forestry Development (FFD) with the aim of supporting cooperatives and small-scale forest growers with FSC forest certification to increase the value of planted forests and protect forests sustainably. The project is implemented in 4 provinces of Quang Ngai, Phu Yen , Nghe An and Thua Thien - Hue.

 

In Phu Yen, the project started in January 2023. Currently, 134 forest planting households of the above 3 cooperatives have registered for FSC forest certification on a total area of more than 678 hectares.
