Laurin Curda scored the winning goal for Paderborn.
The second leg of the Bundesliga promotion playoff final ended with a 2-1 victory for Paderborn after a dramatic 120 minutes (the first leg ended in a 0-0 draw) against Wolfsburg. This result marks a historic turning point as Paderborn secured promotion thanks to their resilient performance.
The second leg of the playoff unfolded in the most unbelievable way possible. As soon as referee Felix Zwayer blew the opening whistle, Wolfsburg seemed to have taken control with an early goal.
In the second minute, Dzenan Pejcinovic capitalized on a defensive lapse by Paderborn to score the opening goal for the visitors. It seemed this advantage would allow the German top-league side to easily impose their style of play, but the real turning point came shortly afterwards.
In the 13th minute, Wolfsburg defender Joakim Mæhle received a direct red card after a dangerous foul. Playing with 10 men for the remaining 100 minutes proved too much for the already fragile defense of the visiting team.
Taking full advantage of their numerical superiority, Paderborn launched a full-scale attack in an attempt to find an equalizer in the first half. The home team's efforts were finally rewarded with a goal from Filip Bilbija in the 37th minute. The score was 1-1.

Joakim Mæhle received a red card in the 13th minute.
The equalizer relieved the pressure on the home team at Home Deluxe Arena, allowing them to play much more freely. Conversely, Wolfsburg were forced to retreat into a defensive posture and rely on the brilliance of goalkeeper Grabara, who had a busy day.
In the second half, the game was evenly matched as Paderborn continuously pressed but were unable to break through the opponent's defense a second time. The resilience of Wolfsburg's defense, led by Belocian, forced the match into two tense extra time periods.
In the 99th minute of the first extra time period, captain and central defender Laurin Curda shone brightly with a precise finish to put the score at 2-1 . The Home Deluxe Arena erupted after the precious goal scored by the player wearing number 17.
In the remaining minutes, Wolfsburg, despite possessing experienced stars like Christian Eriksen and Koulierakis, were unable to create a miracle. Christian Eriksen is a standout player in Wolfsburg's midfield. The Danish star is set to join Wolfsburg in the summer of 2025.
The match ended with overwhelming joy for the Paderborn players, while the visiting team's stars collapsed onto the pitch in disappointment.

Wolfsburg will be relegated to the Bundesliga 2 next season.
From a professional standpoint, Curda was the best player of the match with a score of 8.6 (according to Fotmob) thanks to his solid defense and the match-winning goal. In addition, midfielder Hansen and striker Bilbija had a brilliant day, helping their team achieve their promotion dream.
This defeat was a major shock for Wolfsburg, as they were officially relegated to the lower league for the following season. Conversely, Paderborn proved that team spirit and perseverance can overcome any barrier of class in a do-or-die final.
