Thanh Lam and Trinh Minh Hien are more magical and enchanting in "Phuong Linh"

Báo Dân ViệtBáo Dân Việt04/12/2023

Trinh Minh Hien is magical and enchanting right from the opening of "Phuong Linh"

"Phuong Linh" officially took place at the Youth Theater (Hanoi) on the evening of December 3. With 17 elaborate and meticulous performances, containing the dedication of the crew, "Phuong Linh 's musical dream" became a special performance. Every sound, melody, and lyric... captured the audience's emotions. The magical transformation of music brought about multi-real, multi-virtual, and multi-emotional dreams. People could not name every emotion that existed in them when watching "Phuong Linh", but they could feel the wonderful moments that the music brought.

Last night, when the silk curtain with the image of the Phoenix bird fell down and the first notes of music sounded, the audience at the Youth Theater auditorium was convincingly drawn into "The Phoenix Music Land".

Artist Trinh Minh Hien appeared on stage with his violin, skillful, intense and extremely attractive. Along with typical Vietnamese traditional musical instruments such as: jaw harp, bamboo flute, big drum, pa ra nung drum... the story of "Phuong Linh" was told in a fascinating way.

In part 1 called "Phuong's Music Region", the sacred phoenix's voice soars with its musical wings through the mountains and forests in "Ing la oi", "Chiec khan Pieu", "Oi M'drak"..., drifts with "Phuong Linh", explodes with "Tieng drum Paranung", satirizes the wings of "Co in Con co", is poignant in the ancient story "Da vong chong" and the haunting voice of diva Thanh Lam.

The pieces performed in this section were arranged and composed by violinist Trinh Minh Hien. As Trinh Minh Hien shared: "My musical identity is national aspirations, above all the Vietnamese spirit! Therefore, not stopping at a show, "Phuong Linh" is also a night of inheritance and rebirth of those national aspirations in music".

Trinh Minh Hien has realized his great aspiration by creating his own musical space, a colorful space that breaks the limits of Western classical music standards. There, each skillful violin finger has blended with Vietnamese folk music, world music, and flamenco, bringing unbelievable perfection to the most sophisticated music listeners.

Also in "Phuong Music Land", on the minimalist but extremely sophisticated stage set up by director Dang Xuan Truong, Trinh Minh Hien and his violin really showed their irresistible appeal. Many audiences were amazed by the artist's captivating performance on stage. Completely different from the usual images when the violin appears with the orchestra or as a highlight behind to support the singers... when becoming the central character, Trinh Minh Hien and his violin freely let loose and sublimate.

The image of the Vietnamese female artist drifting along with each lingering sound, blending with the space and other musical instruments, brings an appearance that is both noble and luxurious, yet surprisingly close and sharp. Not only that, the audience also has the opportunity to see a charming and alluring Trinh Minh Hien in the song she composed called "Phuong Linh".

Nine musical colors and the combination of Vietnamese cultural elements have made Trinh Minh Hien's violin performance more Vietnamese than ever. Each land that sacred bird flies through, each story told through music makes the audience love and be more proud of Vietnamese culture, and appreciate more the talent, passion and courage of classical musical instrument performers like Trinh Minh Hien.

It was the convincing performances of Trinh Minh Hien when combined with Vietnamese artists that made Vietnamese hearts even more proud when witnessing the superb playing of pianist Maurizio Mastrini from Italy. Standing next to international artists, the Vietnamese artist showed his own uniqueness and specialness.

After performing the Vietnamese National Anthem in an elegant style, artist Maurizio Mastrini returned to the stage in part 2 "Kisses of the Dragon" with his trademark pink suit and bare feet. With 6 songs from the album Baci (Kisses) composed by himself for the piano, Maurizio Mastrini showed his class as an international artist, an "il fonomeno" (phenomenon) who is critically acclaimed as one of the great pianists and composers of world music.

On stage, when the piano keys danced under the skillful fingers of the "wild heart" Maurizio Mastrini, the hearts of every listener must have gone numb and melted. The music seemed to take the listener to another space of kisses, of dreams of love and burning passion. Love existed, overflowed, rolled into space, permeated every cell. The audience was thus led into the artist's world.

Maurizio Mastrini not only plays music, he plays with the piano. In the song "Love of the Children", the piano keys, the body, and other components of the Yamaha CFX piano worth up to 7.5 billion VND all become music under the hands of the "barefoot pianist". The joyful hearts and endless applause of the audience certainly became a beautiful memory of Maurizio Mastrini at the live show "Phuong Linh".

Through two parts of the program, "Phuong Linh" took the audience through magical soundscapes. The program's musical arrangement showed elaborate metaphors, also skillfully pushing the audience's emotions. The aspiration of "Phuong" continued to fly through the classical music realm with "A.Vivaldi", "O sole mio"... to return to Hanoi to immerse in the romantic night of "Romance in Hanoi", enlightenment - letting go - understanding in "The tree of life", a philosophy of life and flying to the highest cloud (brilliant but peaceful) of "Khai Trieu", ending a journey of the meaning of life of Phuong Hoang, stronger after each revival.

The highlight of part 3, called the flight path, is the performance of "The Tree of Life" - another composition by artist Trinh Minh Hien. By combining with the rotating bell system of artist Nguyen Tien Manh, the haunting voice of diva Thanh Lam... a whole space full of Zen has been created with music and lyrics. Trinh Minh Hien with his compositions shows the talent and burning passion of the artist for the violin and for life itself.
