The theater was established on the basis of merging the Dak Nong Ethnic Music and Dance Troupe, the Bien Xanh Music and Dance Theater and the Southern Central Highlands Ethnic Art Troupe. These were units under the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the three provinces of Lam Dong (old), Binh Thuan and Dak Nong before the merger.
Accordingly, Lam Dong Art Theater is a public service unit under the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong province, has legal status, has its own office and seal; at the same time, receives all functions, tasks, personnel, finance, assets, equipment, documents and records of the 3 previously arranged units.
The establishment of Lam Dong Art Theater will optimize resources, opening up great opportunities for artists to create and develop works of great artistic value together.
Thereby, creatively applying traditional cultural materials and cultural identities of ethnic groups, creating performing arts works that smoothly combine ethnicity and modernity, bringing traditional cultural values into contemporary life.
The establishment of Lam Dong Art Theater will create a new creative space, helping to preserve and promote national cultural values, elevate professional performing arts, bring to the public good and beautiful art programs, contributing to enriching the cultural and spiritual life of the people of all ethnic groups in the province.
Lam Dong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has appointed People's Artist Mai Trung Kien (NSND Mai Kien - Director of Bien Xanh Music and Dance Theater) to hold the position of Director of Lam Dong Art Theater and 5 Deputy Directors.
